We did it we made it to the tip of mainland Australia. It was only a 40ish k's drive from Loyalty beach campground to the top and we stopped at the croc tent for some souveniers. On the way back from the tip we stopped at Punsand bay for some lunch and then headed back to camp. That night i packed up the awning for the next day's early start and this turned out to be a bad move as it rained while we were trying to eat our tea, as if id ran over a black cat it started raining quite heavy again about 6am and we had to pack a wet camper which i didn't like to do as it would be packed for the next 3 days with no chance of drying. Arriving at the boat at 8am we asked about having time to duck into Bamaga to get a new phone charger and they said that would be ok if we were back asap. Well im not sure why we needed to be back so quick as we didnt board the boat until after 10.30 and the car and camper wern't loaded until after lunch. The boat didnt leave the dock until 5.30 ?????? but we were well fed while we were waiting.
Once we were under way we had our tea and were informed that the boat was noisey and we probably wouldn't sleep much the first night but would sleep like logs on the second and were offered ear plugs, Yep they were right it's noisey. Bacon and eggs for breaky, pastries for morning tea, cooked lunch, nibblies for afternoon tea and cooked tea we didnt starve at all on the trip. From the time we rounded the tip to probably 3/4 of the way down the coast the ocean had a swell, not enough to make anyone seasick just enough to make everyone look drunk when they walked. We had a 4 bunk room with the kids taking the top bunks and the oldies taking the bottom bunks, i didn't sleep much the first night and slept better the second but Fiona and the kids slept well both nights. We were told we should dock at 10am and be off the boat by 12, by moring they said we should dock at 12 and by mid morning we were told that another boat was in our dock so we had to anchor just out of the harbour and eventually dock around 2pm. by the time they unloaded the car and camper we were on the road about 3pm and looking for a car wash as everything was covered in salt, after a lap of cairns we finally found a carwash and headed for the big4 coconut resort where we are to spend 5 nights.
Once we checked in we had the big unvailing of the camper again, expecting to see all the canvas mouldy we were surprised no mould and mostly dry. the coconut resort is a kid's paradise with 2 pools, a water funpark, 2 jumping pillows, a playground, tennis, billiads etc and to top it off we had free pancakes for breaky this morning.
