How to win friends and influence people in Vietnam....be really sick on the plane from some dodgy fish you ate the night before, then when you leave the airport and get out of the taxi with the new people you have just befriended, projectile vomit in the street....... anyway it worked cos they took me in and looked after me - aren\'t aussies great??!!
So it worked out good and bad, good cos I met 3 great new people (oner of whom is your twin Bushbaby!) and bad beacuse it took me a few days to recover so I could only have one drink on New Years eve...ah well, but I was in Ho Chi Minh city and the vibe was great!
Vietnam, Saigon city even more manic than Bagkok. If you have ever been to Amsterdam and seen the amount of pushbikes there then that is probably approximating on the amount of mopeds in this city! The pollution was horrendous and the majority of people were scarves over their faces to protect their lungs.
Visited Cu Chi tunnels where the vietcon lived underground and fought the Americans in the Vietnam war. the tunnels are really tiny and we all came out sweaty dusty and covered in bruises. it was a real insight into the life of the times.
I then took a 3 day boat trip up and around the Mekong Delta area. This was so great and the perfect antidote to spending so much time on buses in Australia. We saw some tribal villages on islands and experienced life on the water including floating markets and cottage industries as well as seeing how the people live using the river, even though it was very very muddy they was, cook and launder in it.....
