Vivs Travels
After successfully crossing the border into Cambodia there was a beautiful boat trip in the sun making friends up almost as far as Phenom Penh. from there we took a comedy bus with Japanese techno blaring but after a few beers on the boat it was great party stuff!! 7 of us from the boat trip stuck together and found a beautiful guesthouse with great food for the bargain price of US$1.50 each, by the lakeside of this remarkable city.
the stay here was emotionally very difficult as we spent a whole day visiting the killing fields and S21, a school which the Khymer Rouge turned into a detnetion centre during their horrible regime. I brightened my day by visiting the palace. Cambodia as a whole amazed me as I didn't know what to expect with the peoples new found freedom still novel. Every person had somebody close to them killed by the Khymer Rouge and many of the survivors of the regime are now land mione victims, a very sad plight, with still vast areas of Cambodia covereved in landmines - this is one country where you stick to the road! The people are amazing, the scenery is stunning, they are very advanced in the big towns and the children are very sweet and are going to be great entrepreneurs when they grow up, they all learn English from speakign to tourists.
The only problem?? No cash machine...aghhh...fortunately they take virtually any currency you have!
Travelling north to Siem rep Priya and I had a full day visiting the fantastic temple remains of the Angkor region including sunrise at Angkor Wat, sunset and a visit to the 'forgotten temple' where Tomb Raider was filmed. A great day but a bit 'templed out' how people do 3 days I don't know!
Yesterday I did the border crossing back into Thailand via an incredibly bumpy peice of raod - you breathe a sigh of releif when you get back onto tarmac to discover this is as bad due to the huge potholes!!
