We were up early and planned to fuel up at Carnarvon. The landscape was pleasant enough and as we got closer to Carnarvon we had lots and lots of banana plantations to look at too. Geraldton was our next major town and another fuel up. From here we stopped in at Dongara to collect a few supplies with the intention of spend our last two days at Sandy Cape.
As we pulled up at the rear of the IGA we heard a bang. Glenn had driven up over a low kerb slowly bring the van up behind us. When he got out he walked back to see if he had damaged the kerb but all was good. Then he approached the gap between the car and van and noticed the towbar was sitting at a 45' angle. After examining the possible problem Glenn unhooked the car and told me that the towbar was broken. How did that happen!! Glenn found a truck body builder who was also a vehicle inspector. This chap was stagged to see what had happened and told us how lucky we were that it didn't break while we were driving. After a 3hour delay we headed off to Sandy Cape arriving just as the sun was setting.
We did our usual quick setup and settled back to have a quiet night around the fire. The following morning we had a cookup and then went for a wander along the beach. We thought there were only about 5 other vans where we were but I didn't realise that there was another camp area to the right of the entrance. There was another 4 vans in this area too. The beach was very weedy so Glenn decided not to wet his line.
We had another couple of vans come in during the day and had a chat to a couple of people about their travels. Eventually we ended up around the fire with a couple from Tasmania; they gave us a good insight for our plans of travelling to Tassie. This is our final night before we head home tomorrow.
I was feeling sad that our holiday was coming to an end but keen to get home and catch up with the Dale, Ryan and Elle and our extended family and friends.
We have seen, eaten, drank, shared, laughed, photographed, shopped, visited, cruised, walked and climbed, we have avoided cattle, sheep, goats, emus, pigs, wild horses, camels, dingoes, echidnas snakes, eagles and numerous birds. Not to mention lots of cars, trucks and fellow caravaners. We have travelled over 13.500km and spent around $8.500.
It has been fantastic, now to start planning for the next big holiday!!
