On route to Queenstown baby! I had a 9am 'naked bus' to catch in the centre of town, I had no idea why it was called the naked bus but hey ho! My taxi that I had booked for 8.30am did not appear, so I panicked a wee bit but after phoning the taxi company again, they got me to the bus stop with a minute to spare until 9am!!! The weather was awful. Well awful compared to what I have been used too, rain and cold temperatures! Brrr.
It certainly wasn't like the Greyhound buses I used in Australia on my last visit. There were 8 of us on a 52 seater bus so loads of space to spare. The bus driver was really friendly too. As I had only had 3 hours sleep last night, I slept most of the journey which made the time pass quickly.
We stopped at Lake Tekapo for an hour for lunch and to change drivers. It was just as beautiful as I remembered from my last visit. Stunning scenery, with the crystal blue waters. The weather had brightened up by lunch time so I went for a walk along the lake side, I really can't describe how pretty it actually was.
We arrived into Queenstown at 6pm so it was quite a drive. The hostel was a 5 minute walk from the bus stop which was perfect as my bags weren't the lightest. It seemed such a friendly hostel, the dorms were on the small side though but it had a massive living room area and kitchen. The girl that checked me in, invited me to join them for drinks and a night out because it was a girls 30th that day.
I went for a walk around town, to remind me where everything was. It was ace to be back, and the hostel was so central. I went to a bar and had a lovely roast pumpkin salad for tea, before going to the liquor store to buy a few bottles of wine. I wasn't tired at all, so I went to the living room area and joined in on the 30th. Everyone was super friendly and so welcoming, there was about 25 of us with the majority of them living here long term and working in the hostel. It wasn't the best as they were all really good friends but it was still really nice of them to ask me.
One bottle of wine later, I agreed to go out with them to the first bar for a drink or two. We went to Skybar and it was so cheap, it was ace. There was another backpacker too that came out so I ended up chatting to her for ages and after two vodkas, I decided to come back to the hostel as I was knackered.
Pretty good night after just arriving at 6pm by myself. I had a drunken call to Shonagh before hitting the pillow. Shame my head didn't stay on the pillow though, a few hours later I was wide awake at 4am stupidly and drunkenly texting people at home. I think I'm getting good at making a fool of myself when it comes to guys haha. Why is life so complicated at times?!? xxx
