Well my first full day in Queenstown :)
Last night someone had the air conditioning on in the dorm all night so I woke full of the cold. It wasn't even warm so I'm not sure who decided to put it on, plus it was right above my bunk... the joys.
Anyways my day didn't start too well, with lots of messages from someone at home. Friday the 13th grrr. I used the 'free' international phone to call Shonagh when I woke which was nice and then spoke to Adam on viber. I had bought some basic food etc so went up to the kitchen and made myself breakfast, when the guys I went out with last night were away to have a movie marathon in the living room. Just what I needed as the weather was awful outside, it was pouring and cold.
First movie was Matila :) such a brilliant film. There was about 20 of us all curled up on sofas or bean bags all over the room, I was feeling bit home sick and teary for the first time since I left home lol so it cheered me up a bit :) Second film was Time Travellers Wife, which is also amazing but very sad. While I was watching the films, I booked a flight from Invercargill back to Christchurch for Friday on my iPad, replied to emails and did my Internet banking stuff etc.
After the second movie I thought it was about time I actually did something with my day, but since it was 5.30pm there was only one thing I could do to try and make my day a million times better than it started off and that was book onto a Bar Crawl with the two auzzie chicks in my dorm! :)
Best decision ever. I had a bottle of wine and they had ciders so we sat in the dorm drinking and listening to music. It was so much fun and hilarious, Mella and Nina got wasted before we even left the room. Tats the Japanese guy in the dorm and Ben another auzzie, drank with us too but decided not to come on the pub crawl with us. It started from the World Bar at 9.30pm and I hadn't been in there yet since my last time in Queenstown 4 years ago. It was ace to be back, drinking 'cups of tea' again!!!
The 3 of us were sitting drinking in the bar when a German girl asked to join us, she was also travelling herself and wanted a night out in Queenstown as it was her last night. I wish I had as much confidence as her to go up to three girls and join them. She was so lovely though and brilliant fun. We managed to get her joined onto the Bar Crawl and the 4 of us partied on :)
I could not tell you the amount of bars we actually went too, but I can tell you I had one of the best nights out. We went to an ice bar, where it was -6.1 degrees and everything was made of ice, even the glasses which started to melt in your hand if you didn't drink quick enough (Proud to say I didn't have that problem :)). We had to wear big jackets and gloves etc. but I opted out of the hat and ugg boots. In every bar there were games etc which you could win free shots. Totally crazy.. From doing as many pull ups on the rafters of a pub to showing parts of your body in the ice bar to acting games on the floor of one of the pubs :) I am sure you can all guess. Many shots were won by us ;)
In one pub we were all dancing on the bar, and I was taking a photo of Nina when we were on top of the bar.. I took the photo, then looked at it to make sure it was OK, when I looked up she had disappeared. She had fallen straight off the bar and landed on her back smashing glasses on the way down. It was hilarious and so lucky that she hadn't hurt herself. She fell down behind the bar too so the bar staff also got a shock and a half :)
Germany and I decided not to head back to the World Bar where the bar crawl was finishing, and went to Fergburger instead for some food. It was soooo good, I had forgotten how amazing they were. After stuffing our faces we went into another bar, can't remember the name of it but the one that the roof opens up, Winnies I think, as Germany wanted to meet a guy. I was on the water at this stage, as we had so many shots and jäger bombs it was crazy.
I seen a guy with a Scotland top on, so in my drunken state asked where he was from. I don't remember getting a reply when some other guy comes up and says 'Are you not Victoria Maitland'?! I was in shock, I had never seen this guy before and did not have a clue who he was. It turns out he is a farmer from Fife and went to Craibstone. After a while it turned out he is best mates with Kylies brother Adam and recognised me from photos on Facebook. I am officially world famous haha.
I ended up drinking with them and staying till close. There must have been about 10 of them in the group and they were all farmers working up in the North Island and on a road trip together. It was such a laugh and such a small world. We went onto the Skybar after that bar had closed for more drinks and eventually got back to the hostel at about 4.15am!!!!
Really can't believe someone knows me at the other side of the world! Crazy.com
So after an absolute rubbish start to Friday 13th, I made sure I ended it on a high with an amazing night out :) I love you Queenstown xxx
