Vicky's Travels..
Dear all,
Can't believe another weekend has come round so fast. We only have another 2 weeks of teaching and then will be leaving Chalok Lam for Koh Tao where we will be staying for 5 days doing our PADI diving course. The dive school that we are diving with are being a bit funny (understandably so) about my asthma and therefore I have to go and see the suspiciously named "Dr M" on Koh Samui on Monday for a check up. If all is well he will give me a certificate to give to the dive school. If not, then I won't be able to dive and will only be allowed to snorkel. Fingers crossed for Monday please! I sooooo want to dive!
Anyway - in anticipation of the trip to Samui on Monday, Cath and I decided to stay in Haad Rin for the weekend. The others have gone to Khao Sok National Park, where they are probably being eaten alive as I type! Cath and I have got the lovely bungalow we stayed in for their birthday weekend, with a bath and hot water etc BUT....all would have been well apart from the electrical storm that has been raging all day, which cut off the power to the whole island for most of today! What use is air con when the power is off!??!?!
To be honest it's all been a bit scary here last night and earlier today. Last night's tide came up so high that we had to run from the bar we were in, the waves were so big. We've just been down to the beach to have a look because the rain has stopped now. It's a complete mess. Most of the bars are full of great heaps of sand and there are tables and chairs everywhere. The sea is so rough you couldn't get a boat to anywhere even if you wanted to. I think the road to Haad Rin might be shut off too, as it would have turned into a mudslide. All in all a good weekend so far! In fact, when we were walking on the beach earlier in the pouring rain it felt quite like a Kirke family trip to the seaside - Dad you'd have loved the waves here today!
Since the power came up a few hours ago Cath and I have managed to console ourselves by watching Coyote Ugly - and crying - again! I love that film! We had to have a hot bath too - it's really cold today! Brrrr! Obviously not cold by English standards but a bit chilly for here!
Not quite sure what will be happening tonight. Some of the people in the bars are in the process of clearing everything up but most of the Thais I've seen today have just been standing around looking at the sea. It's all a bit scary but I think the worst of it is over now, at least we have power and we are all safe. Glad I was here and not in the jungle with the others! Have taken some photos of the waves so will put them on the website when I get the chance. Just goes to show that the sun can't shine all the time!
Well I suppose I should love you and leave you all now, going to snuggle up in our bungalow for a bit and watch the sea....!
Have a great weekend, love to you all! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
