The next stop on our way was at Starling Village backpackers in Plettenburg bay. We arrived around tea time so after putting our things in our room we went to the kitchen, which is where the fun began! On the menu was "Piggy Pasta" bacon, onion and sweetcorn in a tomato sauce, but things didnt go well from the start. First of all the onion made me cry then there wasnt a tin opener so Sarah spent ages trying to open the sweetcorn and tomato puree with a knife before I remembered I had an armny knife that might have one on, which it did. So finally having got the tin of sweetcorn open we realised we hadnt got normal sweetcorn but cream style sweetcorn. Inside the can was a thick yellow mush with some lumps of normal sweetcorn! We fried the bacon and onion and nervously added the yellow mush. It wasnt too bad as some of the mush evapourated away just leaving the chunks. We had a big tin of tomato puree and no way of saving any so we tipped it all in, big mistake! It looked and smelt really nice and for the first few mouthfuls tasted really nice as well but then the tomato taste became too much. We struggled on and kept eating as we were hungry but wished we hadnt as at the end we felt a bit sick.
After our disappointing tea we headed down to the bar where we had a cup of tea and sat by the fire as it was quite cold. We watched TV and the film Clash of the Titans before going to bed. In the morning we got the shuttle into town and found a supermarket. Wedecided to stick with what we knew and bought sausage, potatoes and gravy. We also bought some double delights, the cookies we had on the penincular tour. Sarah was very disappointed as they wouldnt sell her wine because it was Sunday! We had lunch in a cafe before heading back to the backpackers where we took advantage of the free internet and pool table until the bus came to pick us up.
Our next stop was Storms River at the Tube and Axe backpackers. Here Aly and the truck were also there. We were staying in a twin safari tent (a tent with proper beds and a plug) POSH! We made our sausage and mash which was much more of a success than the night before and sat chatting to Aly and Erika before going to bed.
In the morning we got up to find the kitchen where we had cooked tea was being demolished so we had to buy breakfast instead. After that we went for a walk in the t***ikama forest. We did the yellow trail but it didnt take very long so we think we might have gone wrong somewhere. When we got back to the lodge we played pool whilst waiting for the bus. One game lasted over an hour so you can tell we are not very good at it! At last the bus came and we set off for Jeffreys bay.
