My bus to Arequipa left at 6:30am so I was up early. The seats at the back of the bus were on offer so I sat there saving 40 soles. However the bus attendents wanted to use the back seats to put things on so they asked me to move forward. The seats further forward did have slightly more leg room. So I got a posh seat for a cheap price, bonus! We stopped in Nasca for quite a while, I think we were waiting for our lunches to be loaded onboard. A local man that had just got on the bus said hello to me in English and asked how i was. He also asked what my name was before he sat down just infront of me. The girl opposite me then said to me, I had to be careful around Peruvian men as they will put things in my drink, she was peruvian herself.
Eventually we set off again. They gave us some food and played a few movies. The last movie was about a dog and it made me cry! Because of all the hold ups we were 2 hours late getting to Arequipa, it was now 11:30pm. I went to try to get a taxi to my hostel as it had said on the internet the taxi drivers will try to take you to other hostels where they give them commission. The taxi driver would take me but he wanted a bit more money than they had reccommended but i didnt care I just wanted to go to bed. I arrived at midnight but still couldnt go to bed as I had to print my bus ticket and book a hostel in Arica for the next night and let the Green Toad bus know where I was staying. I did all that by 1am and finally went to bed.
I didnt get too much sleep though as I had to be at the bus station again at 6am. I was catching the 6:30 bus to Tacna a town near the border. At Tacna there was a man waiting for me with a sign with my name on, well Victoria Clarque but that was close enough. He took me to his minibus. He was to drive me across the border to Arica and to my hostel. He gave me the forms I needed to fill out for immigration into Chile. Also at the border my bags were scanned to see if they had any fresh food in as you are not allowed to take fresh food into Chile. Once across the border Arica was only about 15 minutes away. He dropped me off at my hostel door.
I had arrived in Chile .....
