Another 2 days have passed and could not have seen such different scenery! Yesterday we headed over to the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico and headed underground to see the caves and caverns that have been created by underground water movement. Its a really eerie place as it is so huge and the lighting makes it seem quite alien. The walk through took us past many natural geological formations that are very rare. To preserve the caves your not allowed to touch the rocks, which makes a lot of sense. The walk around took a good hour or so (but we didnt see any bats :o( - which i really wanted to see) The photos dont really do it justice to be honest.....after a long and windy drive out of the mountains we headed to Roswell for a few hours. i kinda hyped it up in my head and when i go there was a little disapointed. it was really, really tacky . as you can see from the pictures (of which there arent that many!) its all surface stuff and no real extensive museums or info on the aliens. Theres no real mention of Area 52 or weird people walking around - which, if im being honest, is what i expected lol. Anyway, we drove for as long as we could so we were close to Monument valley and crashed for the night.
Today was Monument Valley - and its odd, because you drive and see all this spectacular scenery, take loads of pictures of it and it doesnt even slightly compare to what the Valley is like. we drove all the way through and stopped every now and again to take pictures. There are actually still some American Indian tribes living in the park with no water or electricity living in traditional huts. its pretty cool - they sell homemade trinkets and jewellrey to the tourists which is how they earn money for food and stuff. we could have spent so long here, but as the sun started to go down we had to leave and head over to the camp site. Tomorrows the Canyon! xxxx
