After you have picked your jaws up off the floor from looking at my Grand Canyon pictures i hope u have time to read what i have been up to here! Yesterday we drove the remaining few miles into the Grand Canyon National Park and after having to set up camp - which is just such a chore, we headed for our first glimpse of the canyon....although......Matt the tour guide had us all blindfolded, in a single file line holding onto each others hands not knowing where the hell we were or how close to the edge we could have been, but it was an awesome sight when we opened our eyes - your looking down the canyon from the very top and it just goes on and on forever its huge! we stayed up here for sunset and had a glass of bubbly as it was a little late to do any real hiking - tomorrows was gonna be the killler. The views from up the top though were just amazing - we went to the south rim of the canyon as the north is closed at this time of year and were camping in the park itself so it meant an early rise in the morning - which was good as we were all tired anyway!
Day 2:
Well, what a day - i was cream crackered after the walk down the canyon. A few of us went to do the South Kaibob trail as it is one of the best (if one of the steepest) as it takes you down further into the canyon than any of the other walks. Its virtually impossible to climb all the way to the bottom and then back up in one day so we settled for a smaller walk of about 2 hrs down and then estimated about 4 hrs back up! lol. it was tough. The going down part wasnt too bad and we kinda pushed ourselves to go further and further without really thinking of how hard it was going to be going back up - but it was soooooo worth it. the scenery changes dramatically as u go down because your looking back up at what u have climbed and the outcrops give amazing views straight down to the base. The climb back up was long and tiring with rests practically every 10 minutes. it was such an achievement though and it felt good to actually do some walking. That night we just went out for dinner and went bowling in the local town to chill out for a bit and boy were we glad for it, we were all so tired and achy but we knew we had to do it and that the next few days were going to be spent pretty much drinking and soaking up the sun - its LAS VEGAS BABAY woop!
