Victoria is not a big place....at least the main centre isn't. We stayed at the Executive House hotel which is nice. The weather is overcast and a little chilly. We went for a walk taking in the harbour, Beacon Hill Park. It was Thanksgiving week end so at times it was quiet. We've left Tofino and headed for Victoria at the south of the island. It is a long drive, around 6 hours. We stopped along the way at Chemainus. this an old mining town where the mine closed. Some bright spark decided to paint murals on the buildings and it soon became a tourist attraction. It is now a thriving place again. If I ever get the internet speed sorted you can see the photos. Here we are in Tofino....' The surfing capital of Canada'. I'm guessing in the summer this place is wall to wall with fit young people in three quarter length shorts with braided hair high fiving each other. We left Whistler fairly early and headed for Horseshoe bay to catch the ferry to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. As always the drive was exceptional. Everywhere you go it's so picturesque but so different from the last place. We arrived at the port and boarding the ferry was simple as we had booked ahead. The crossing took about 1.5 hours. We left 108 mile house and headed for Whistler. This is a town which was built for the Olympics about 40 years ago. Nice hotel as always. Whistler is like being in an outdoor shopping mall. Lots of pedestrian areas with Outdoor shops. The bars are full of Yoof in wooly hats and sunglasses with their mountain bikes parked outside, We had a walk round and decided if you wanted a full on outdoor holiday this was the place. We had dinner and went back to our hotel !...
