Here we are in Tofino....' The surfing capital of Canada'. I'm guessing in the summer this place is wall to wall with fit young people in three quarter length shorts with braided hair high fiving each other. In fact the local surf queen competition is on today. Trouble is although the waves are up (surf term) its pissing down with rain.

We got up early today optimistically hoping to go whale watching. Unfortunately the weather is so bad you cant see much so the ships didnt go out. However we are nothing if not intrepid. Our moto is 'no bad weather just wrong clothing'. We donned our wet weather kit and headed out. The beaches are huge and it was very dramatic with the wind and rain whipping up the waves.

It has felt like an English winters day. So after a bracing walk and a good soaking we headed for the pub. A hot bowl of chilli a pint of Honey brown beer and all was right with the world. We're taking the opportunity to catch up on a few chores. Our hotel room has big patio doors which look out over the sea. We are sat inside watching the weather.

Tomorrow its another early start to head across Vancouver island to Victoria. It looks as though the rain will follow us.
