We were sad to leave Patnem and especially sad to say good-bye to Whinny (our holiday dog) but we're hopeful that some new tourists will adopt her. We spent 2 nights staying at a camp in a national park. No we weren't under canvas - we were in a cabin, but that didn't stop the frogs and slugs from joining us (you may have heard Vanda scream when she found them join her in the shower?!) We were the only 2 visitors the 1st day but were joined on the 2nd day by a keen bird watcher from the UK. Had a great couple of days (even though we had to be up at 6am!) and spotted lots of birds as well as a giant squirrel and monkeys. The staff were all lovely and the guides had the amazing ability to spot birds hidden in trees way in the distance that we struggled to see through binoculars. Then we came to Panjim, the capital of Goa. The buildings are Portuguese in style - very colonial with large verandahs and painted pretty colours. Stayed in one of the old buildings and enjoyed a touch of luxury with a four poster bed, TV (with BBC news and National Geographic channels), tea making and even hot water in the bathroom! Spent a day visiting the ancient churches and cathedral of Old Goa. With the Portuguese heritage its a very Christian area with lots of churches. Next stop Delhi.
