Had a bit of a sleep in and then went on our tour to the royal tombs at 11am.
We drove to a number of tombs which were huge and interesting places. The first was the tomb of Tu Duc which was massive and filled with gardens and lakes.
The next stop was the tomb of Khai Dinh which was the newer of the tombs we visited. It had great views over the mountains and very steep stairs.
The last tomb we visited was the oldest, tomb of Minh Mang. This was the largest tomb complex in size but wasn't as many stairs as Khai Dinh.
Our last stop was Thien Mu pagoda close to the hotel before a boat ride back to the hotel. We had a small boat to ourselves and we thought it was the first ever tour where you are not herded into a shop somewhere to buy something. We were wrong, as we putted along the river a woman wandered down to us on the boat offering kimonos for sale, then she re-appeared a minute later with postcards for sale.
We arrived back at the hotel mid-afternoon and went and played some pool again before having dinner at the hotel restaurant once again. After dinner we packed ready for our flight to Hanoi the next day.
After the bad start Hue wasn't so bad once you minimised contact with the locals.
