Again had breakfast at the hotel, this time we got a seat by the river which was great. Watching small boats putting up the river.
After breakfast we picked up our day packs and went to reception for our half-day trip to My Son. The ruins were about an hour's drive from Hoi An. We arrived and were dropped off at the car park about a 5 minutes walk down a narrow trail to the start of the circuit around the ruins. The weather was very hot and extremely humid which made walking around the ruins difficult enough but having to do it with a cold was harder still.
The ruins were in a scenic location under Cat's Tooth Mountain and the first group of ruins were largely intact. We wandered around and amongst the ruins some of which were used as small museums to display various statues found at the site.
We progressed around the circuit with the other groups of ruins being in much worse shape due to heavy fighting and bombing in the area during the Vietnam War. We completed the entire circuit and returned to the car park area, bought a old drink and then got back in the car for the return trip to the hotel. We arrived back about lunch time and went to the tailors for a fitting then went in search of lunch.
We checked out a couple of other restaurants recommended by the hotel but they didn't look that good so we decided to look for a restaurant along the river. We eventually settled on one restaurant and went in and sat at a table. One of the guys working there then lit up a cigarette but thankfully went outside when we asked him to. The other guy working there gave us a menu each and asked what we wanted to drink. We each ordered a can of coke and as he went to walk away he did a massive drawback in our ear. At this point we decided that we'd take the cans of coke away and find somewhere else to eat.
We wandered back towards the hotel and went to a restaurant not far from the hotel itself. We walked in and were told we had to go around the back. We followed the waitress around and went into a large open dining area overlooking the river. It had a great view and a cool breeze off the river. Food was good and cheap also.
After lunch we went back to the hotel or a rest before heading out to the tailor for the final fitting of the shirts. They fitted well so we paid for them and had them sent to the hotel for us to pick up when we got back from dinner. We had our last dinner at Ms.Ly's before returning to the hotel to pack for our road trip to Hue the next morning.
