Got up at 8am and had breakfast before walking to Termini underground station to buy a day pass for the underground. Caught the metro in a ridiculously crowded train to Ottaviano station then walked for 5 minutes to Vatican City. Took some pictures of St.Peter's Basilica and St.Peter's Square. After arriving back from Vatican City we walked around the corner to the Crypt of the Cappuccini Monks. Inside was a bizarre display in which the bones of monks were arranged into shapes and patterns with each crypt having a "theme". Price was only a donation and it was certainly worth a look as something completely different. No photos were allowed but you could buy a postcard! Caught 9am Eurostar Italia train from Florence arriving in Rome at 10.30am. We walked the ten minutes to our hotel, Starhotel Metropole. Up at 7am and after breakfast walked down to the train station to catch the 8.33am train to Pisa. Arrived in Pisa and walked to the nearby Tourist Information Centre for a town map and some directions to the leaning tower. Walked 10 minutes through the town of Pisa, passing the Scuole Normale Superiore, arriving at the tourist packed tower area. We arrived back in Florence from Pisa and had lunch at the train station then caught bus No.13 out to Piazzale Michelangelo which is on top of a hill overlooking Florence and contained a replica of the statue David. Took in the great views of Florence and surrounds then caught the bus back to the train station before walking back to the hotel for a rest.
