Today we went on our around island tour. Had to get up early and had breakfast at 5.30am.
First stop was a lookout over Waimea Valley. Going up into the mountains the weather changed from hot and sunny to wet and cool. Great views over the valley. We then went to the Dole Plantation which grew pineapples and coffee. Sampled a pineapple whip which was like a soft-serve ice cream made from pineapple. Delicious.
The next stop was a waterfall in Waimea Valley which was reached by a short hike. You could swim in the pool under the waterfall but we decided against it. We were both mentally scarred when we arrived at the waterfall to see a large woman making her way to go for a swim wearing a g-string. It cannot be unseen.
We then drove on through the North Shore of Oahu where all the big surf beaches are. We stopped at Sunset Beach for a few photos then had lunch at a restaurant on the side of the road specialising in shrimp which they get from ponds behind the restaurant. Luckily for S they also had chicken but the shrimp was awesome. We continued on to the Byodo-In Temple which in the Valley of the Temples. It was a Japanese temple surrounded by fish ponds.
On the way back to Waikiki we stopped at Nu'Uanu lookout and then onto the Halona blowhole which was a hole in the cliff base where water gushed out of like a geyser. The last stop was Hanauma Bay which had a coral reef where people can hire snorkeling equipment.
