Rising n shining to a sunny warm morning does work. Beat my alarm. It was an awesome morning...turned on the hot water.....and there was hot water. So I managed to hose off....and go for breakfast. Did not look forward to the potential cold shower....
So grabbed some grub and on the way back to the room decided to check out. Nice gal...so we chatted a bit. somehow the topic of major muscle pain came up....could of been my whining or wincing n stuff........nahhh doubt it... either way.... she mentions these icy hot packs that she uses...apparently you can buy these things and stick em on... sorta like a nicotine patch.... k put that on the list to look for cause dannnng the neck/back can knot up. But I did bring the pills....just not sure if I really wanna be poppin pills n leaning in the curves....probably a bad thing.... stupid conscience.....
Sooo packed up....must say that does take a bit everything has a place. At breakfast I had the maps out n decided I'll head for Hwy 212...Also known as Beartooth Pass.....also know as a stellar ride.... sooo I should take a peek. When I looked on the map it looked like an ink blot....usually a good sign....
Soo hmmm I think say soo too much...... oops back to da story....from Great Falls to get there the only way that made sense was via the north section of Yellowstone.... only cause its the only connecting road ..... not liking this but whats a guy to do. Yellowstone is a tourist trap...not my kinda place. Words fail me how frustrating it is waiting for people who really should not be any where near nature....that is why there is National Geographic.... they thought of these people...they saw a need tried to fulfill it but they escaped...loaded up the mini van...and tried to become bear bait....with cameras. it is painful to watch.... but Yellowstone is an amazing place..so since I am only cutting across from the north gate to teh east it should be ok. Sounds like a plan....that was the extent....not sure where I was going from there.....would decide once I was there.
Hopped on the bike, topped up the tank.....saw a drug store....hmmmm ... stopped and looked for the icy hot patches....they had em...bought a pack...and some spray. hope it works.
Back on the bike and had to drive through most of town it seemed but finally hit the open road just got cruzin and then the construction genie popped up.........what the front door (k thats code talk Y'all see if you can figure out what I really wanted to say) ... it would seem that there is construction everywhere. Sooo a single lane so had to wait forever.... got off the bike wandered around talked to the flag guy...and finally we got to follow the lead car for about 10 freakin miles. good times.... ditched the interstate fairly quick..... and poof I was in Gardiner pretty uneventful. Cept the part where a deer bounded across the hiway infront of me...came outta nowhere..... came sooo close ... little b***** had to jump to avoid me..... my biggest fear while riding... I watched him pogo across the field......musta had a hot date...
Of all the things to forget I forgot to take a cap....and I am getting some serious helmet head so I decided to find a hat....not so much for me as for the poor soles that stare at me in disbelief when I take my helmet off.....they seem nice about it to my face at least. Gardiner is a tourist town so first store I found .... took off me helmet walked in....looked at the gal...asked for a hat.....she said...yaaaaaa .... follow me.... took all of two secs and we both agreed on a Yellowstone hat to cover me noggin. all good again.
Off to the park.....get to the gate... 10 bucks...sheesh... ask how long to get to Silver Gate? Upon which the youngin informed me that the road was closed just before where I needed to be..washed out..he had to poke me to get me to stop starin at him....sheesh... All I could say was What the Front Door!!!!!! (again you figure out what I really said)... so seems I have to go through the park now....crapppppppp ahhh well off I went.
Sure enough as expected....so I checked out the Mammoth springs...very cool...n a bunch of mud pots .... most impressive. Some point I pulled over and layed down on the side of the road to un-tense me back....wasn't thinkin...sure enough tourist were snappin pics as they drove by.. I can hear it now .. Marge...look at the Motorcylicus Messedupidus! Igt was a nice spot next to the Yellowstone river..very calming....cept for the tourists.
Off I went.... Thermal springs everywhere....also bison...then as I got to the turn off for my escape.... just past the turn it looks like traffic pandemonium...I thought I had to go through it...traffic log jam...but then I saw my turn just before the mess so sigh of relief and took the turn...figured a cow must of popped outta the bush....stupid tourists.
It like took forever cause you are only doing 50 km an hour at times.... soo painful...but I finally hit the east park entrance and there was a store... and they had rocking chairs out front...oh yaaaa so I stopped grabbed some jerky n a coke (no beer here) hopped in the rocker and ahhhhhh ... so took in the sun... everybody wants to talk to the dude with the bike it seems....right about here one of the guys tells me why the traffic jam occured... seems a grizzly was there....get this people were out wandering around it asking when the feeding time was...LMAO... National Geographic people.....seriously......
Off I went.... figured I had enough in me to get to Cody......nice ride...... it totally made up for the park... Oh did I mention two more deer tried to kill me...... scared the crap outta me..... ah well. The road into Cody passed through the Wild Bill Dam the tunnels are very cool.... Almost stopped at the "Wild Bill Dam Historical site cause it must of been some dam site.....
Got a room at da Super 8...... got some Pizza n a bunch of beers..... alll good.....had to peel me socks off though.......ughhh not time to look at a map.... whilst I was laying on the side of the road another biker road up....poked me... so we got to talking. He went on and on about the Bear's Tooth pass..... might have to do it..........
Soaked me back in the bird bath they call a bath tub....seriously...wasn't pretty....but ut helped...then light out...
