Okay so had an amazing day....words are failing me.....Had some of the best riding I've had to date.
So to start the day I got up, hosed off and had me a bowl of corn flakes in the Super 8 patio....actually it was a table in the parking lot. Kinda weird set up but it worked mostly cause it was so nice out. Awesome morning... I laid out the map and yup not far to the passes starting with Chief Joseph Hwy....which connects to Bear's tooth Pass. From there.....I've no idea....if all goes well and I don't get too enthusiastic with the right wrist I should end up in Red Lodge...where I could find a lil bar have a beer n figure out where to next.
So packed up ....loaded up....made sure the cameras were charged n cleared the mem cards. Chased my socks around the room...dang they are getting lively, geared up. Washed the bug grime off the bike...thats when this ole guy started bending my ear....hmmm come to think of it...I'm pretty old .....sighhhh...... Nice guy. Loved BMW's...wanted to tallk my ear off......but I just kept washing the bug guts off.....mmmmm bug guts....little b******s get everywhere.....
All cleaned up n shiny.....always wonder what the cleaning gals at the hotels think....because I use one of the wash cloths to wipe the bike down and a bucket of hot water.....that face cloth is usually black...they must think that the room was used by Pig Pen..... granted....I do seem to pick up a bit o grime on the rode too....
So hit the road with a full tank.... got to the turn off for Chief Joseph and two deers tried to do me in ..... crap....its like they have a death wish....So I stopped....mounted the cameras to get some video....and off I went.
HOLY FARGIN CRAZZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYY
That road was amazing.......massive climbs n corners n views on good road and almost no one on it......I worked out the kink in me neck leaning on the corners....but damn boots kept rubbin....had to stop n stand in a snow bank after the run to cool me boots off.....crazzzzyyyyyy. This is where good tire are a good thing...LOL.
This is what this trip is about....That run made the whole trip so far and then some...how could it get any better.....lol....the views are amazing...I lost count of the corners...
So I pulled into a turnout to chill for a bit....literally as the altitude did make it chilly....and just relaxed and took a breath for the next run n off I went....starts off not bad...but then construction...was climbing...really in the snow now. So had to wait for a one lane run again...the stop sign gal was nice she walked up t ome and asked me to go to the front of the line....could barely hear her when she asked I was revving my engine so high..........not sure why she asked me to go to the front....but that was nice.......so had to wait a bit we chatted and then the dudes from the cars behind me gathered around the bike going ooooo ahhhhhh lol.... must say...GET YOUR OWN DAMN IT!!!!! All good. The sign gal fed birds from here hand....very cool...after about 15 mins she relaesed us......
HOLY CRAP climb turn hard climb.....massive snow pack........road is wet n slick and the temp has dropped massively.....It was like driving through hallways at times the snow was so high beside the road. Tres coooollll in awesomeness and temperature lol. So my little snow flake started going of on the dash and I had to take it easy as it was slick....but still fun as really not many people up here. It got down to zero at the top...and then the wind came...and the snow.....well it actually became a blizzard.....can't really say I rode in one before but .....no choice now lol...between my visor snowing over and the windscreen I didn't know which one to wipe first......crap brutal conditions.... and I was still climbing.....
Finally got to the top....and lo and behold there is a ski hill up there...and lots of people skiing lol. I had the heat on the bike good thing......so I noticed the harley guys were not waving any more...I think there hands were frozen to the bars lol. It was a crazzzyyy twisty climb that opened to a plateau. I'm only wearing half gloves crap...even with the bars on much longer and the frost bite was going to settle in....but the descent began.....again HOLLLLYCRAPPPPP hard turns 270's and ice and water....lol. what a view......then I finially saw some blue sky...I popped outta the storm and the sun hit me....instant warmth...
So down I went....the road dried up....the corners did too hee hee..... fun descent....might need new boots lol .... also brakes....and shorts...oopss.... I got some amazing video and pics....The RT was in its element....can not figure out the Harley folks.... they putt along..... not too exciting.....look mean but pretty whimpy riders....shhhhhhh don't tell I said that.
As I descended it got warmer and warmer...ahhhhhhh. So popped out of the pass....and ended up in Red Lodge....found a pizza joint with a bar...and a patio....got a Glacier Ale...ha ha....and a slice n put me feet up.....the gal asked why my boots were smoking....I muttered sumpin about the pass....she just smiled n nodded ..... she must have thought I was a trad...I had this stupid grin on my face.....wouldn't stop.....lol
So now what.....I asked the restaurant if she had been to Custer's battlefield.....she had in a school trip...god I feel old.....she said it was very interesting.... nuff said ...got a new plan. Put it in me GPS only 2 hours away..... off I went.....
I thinkn my GPS is figuring me out...cause it routed me on a lil two lane road with no one on it that twisted through these rolling hills......I had a blast on that road.....no chance of police on it...errr...uhhh it was a quiet road. But I was chasing a rain cloud....seemed it wanted to go where I did too....just ahead of me so the road was half wet...not bad just enough to annoy. So I ended up at the Little Bighorn Battlefield.....
I really wasn't sure what to expect on this one....but I have to say I ended up spending a lot of time there. If you are into history at all.....this is a very historical site. The way it is laid out is well done. I learned a bit more of the story too. The grave markers are strewn out in the fields for quite a distance both US 7th Calvary men and Indian markers. There is also a monument to the Indian warriors that fell. Won't get all sappy but the information is laid out in such a manner you almost can see it happening......the major point that they stressed was that it wasn't a quick massacre....it was a "hotly contested battle" in which Custer had is ass served to him on a platter. I mean that with no disrespect but its fact. Seems a few senior officers on the US side should have been hanged for treason.........Custer was not well liked it would seem.......
So time to find a bed...... next town south Sheradin....and they got a room....who hoo....only an hour away...so stopped at the nick nack shop just outside the park gates....they had food and nick nacks...was tempted but no room.....so burped drank me pepsi....no beer here......no off I went.
Found me hotel....not easily I might add.....they tore up the whole front street for construction.....so was crazy trying to get in there. But I did got me room they had a hot tub....so I trotted off to check it out n two gals were in there and they both piped up at the same time....that the water was only luke warm.....I almost cried on the spot..I also checked....it was a bit suspicious that they piped up at the same time....I had no hat on so they saw they whole helmet head thing... I might have scared them...sooooo .......hot bird bath time to soak the back....n pass out.......
