Arriving in the city 4 years after our previous stay, it was a relief to find Salzburg was still much as we remembered it. The beautiful churches and steep hills, and the Salzach river running through the centre.
However, although our surroundings were stunning, by the second night here I was waking up with discomfort to find I was in Salzburg still! Our visit coincided with renovations of our Youth Hostel and also a local football match so, it had been a noisy and crowded first day. Though each day has its highlights, and ours were meeting a nun in the park and some Plymouth locals on top of the hill.
Our second day was slower due to the fatigue caused by our youth hostel, but it was pleasant enough to walk along the river, visit an art gallery and sit and have coffee.
On the morning of the third day, after being woken by a recalcitrant roommate, I descended the stairs to the sunrise outside, and after a brief cacophony of church bells I found Salzburg still (see photo). Thanks God.
