After the busyness of Salzburg, we wanted somewhere a bit quieter and Graz has done just the job. The city thrives on tourism, with people coming to the main attractions, particularly on a Sunday when all the shops are closed. We spent a bit of time exploring the cities churches (the Methodist service we attended featured live translation so we could understand it!) walking up the Schlossburg and riding back down in the funicular (our second, though most cities we've been to seem to have one).
When planning this trip we had considered staying in Vienna, but Graz was cheaper and had peaked our curiosity. Our train from Salzburg had a connection at Vienna so we had a quick look at the Botanical garden before our onward journey through the Alps, which was very beautiful.
We managed to find a very reasonable flat outside of the city centre and although this looked a fair way out, the connecting trams and buses have been very reasonable and easy to use. From here we have access to many wonderful hills. We had a lovely day walking under pure blue skies seeing the city from above and the mountains that surround it.
Next stop: Budapest.
