We have often tried to stay a while in places, but sometimes, we just have to keep moving. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, so expecting it to be busy, we only booked two nights, so our stay was always going to be rushed.

We had the lovely pleasure of meeting Lucy's parents who'd arrived before us and scouted out some of the sights. Unfortunately, they were targeted by thieves at the airport and a passport was stolen, meaning that they had to apply for a temporary one. On the plus side, the British embassy was right by the castle, so we got to see a bit of that. The church up there was particularly noteworthy, as it was only finished in 1929, so has the architects in suits sculpted on the exterior. Inside the stained-glass windows contain adverts for the bank which helped fund them and God is dressed out in the colours of the local university.

We arrived late on the first day and after a lovely dinner at Lucy's parents' apartment, we headed to check into our accommodation for the night after 10PM. What we found was not what we'd booked. When your stay for the night introduces itself as "a challenge" you know you may not get the best night's sleep. We were not game and spent the next morning looking for somewhere else, which we found quite quickly and was much more relaxing.

The one full day we had involved passport collection, walking tours in the rain and yes you guessed it, funicular railways. We didn't really get to see much of the city so we mainly saw the tourist areas, which were quite crowded.

PS The next day we got a bus rather than our usual train to our next stop. Our 8-hour journey was delayed by over 4 hours due to traffic at a standstill and then a flat tyre. We didn't get to see Poland in the daylight until the next morning.
