Enchanted Circle
Ashley & I did a two day adventure ride up into Northern New Mexico. We left Albuquerque saturday morning and road North up through Madrid and into Sante Fe. Madrid is a cool tiny town and was in that movie 'wild hogs'if any of you saw that one.
At any rate, We continued North into Santa Fe and beyond taking what is called the high road into Taos. We passed through amazing landscapes as snowcapped huge mtns came into view. We even drove thru a ghosttown of sorts eventually making it into the town of Taos. Taos is a trendy little art town and also pretty big as a ski resort area as well.
We settled in at the Taos Inn right in the heart of town. Man, this place was UBER cool. Our room was very awesome and decked out in cool southwestern art complete with an adobe style fireplace. My favorite was the wooden shutters on the huge windows. I'll upload pics soon. We took in some sights in town, but here Taos closes early, even on a Saturday night. Around 7pm everything was closed, so we meandered back to the Taos Inn, where we could sit outside in their cafe style deck and drink amazing margueritas all while listening to the live band playing chile style music.
The next day, we rode west towards the Rio Grande Gorge which is this HUGE crack in the earth. A sight to see for sure. This place was amazing, and the gorge is so deep, you get vertigo while looking straight down from the bridge lookouts. Check the videos I uploaded, but Im sure they wont do it justice.
We then started our trip around the "enchanted circle" as its called. We rode through the most beautiful countryside. New Mexico has such a huge and various landscape, that We went from desert plains, to red rocks, to Huge white capped mountains that had the changing colors of the aspens down the sides of them. We worked our way up to Red river, which is a super cool ski resort town, and then finally descended back down the Mountains back to Taos, and eventually getting back to Albuquerque to "home." All while Ashley pointed out cows for me to honk at. Can't stop THAT tradition now. :)
Both exhausted, though oddly I was an insomniac last night, and hardly slept a wink. I originally was going to go off this morning towards Roswell, but put that on hold since I'm not feeling well, and today was super windy and a bit cold.
I may put Roswell off till November, when Ashley and I can do a 3 day trip South which will include, Carlsbad Caverns, the white sands, the very large array, and the lightning fields.
Also, this coming weekend is the Albuquerque ballon festival. Held every year I believe, and not a sight to be missed. So if I do or dont trek east to Texas, either way I will be hitting that this weekend with Ashley. Can't wait!
Not sure how many miles we did, though they were all fun ones, and having her on the back of the bike is something I'm truly going to miss on my upcoming trip west.
So, I'm either chilling here in Albuquerque till Monday when I'll leave for the west coast, or take off tomorrow and head East to Texas. Time will tell, and I feel like i have a lot of that lately.
