Well an early start from Dalat and a breakdown halfway down the hill made the journey although scenic, very painful. The bus just cut out and rolled to a gentle stop, the driver was in the engine tinkering around and I think it was something to do with the fuel pump. We finally made our way and we were both a bit anxious as we had a connection to make at Phan Rang. We arrived and the bus was waiting for us, so we piled off our bus and onto the busy bus to Mui Ne. Two red stools were produced and we sat in the aisle for the remainder of the 3 hour journey. The road to Mui Ne was amazing, you had what they looked like praires on one side and sand dunes and sea on the other. The road was very red and reminded us of what Australia would be like. We arrived at our destination and got a moto to the main part of town. We looked around for accomodation for a while but found it was all quite pricey so we bit the bullet and opted for a $20 night room. It was lovely, very modern, had a balcony and a lovely restraunt set out in a large garden with a private area on the beach. This place was a resort after all, you don't expect anything less!!!! We grabbed some lunch and had a few beers and then went out to try and establish the prices of tours. Most places offered Jeeps and were a bit pricey so we decided not to rush into anything and sleep on it. We had the rest of the day to ourselves and we relaxed and ate dinner at he hotel!!!
We got up fairly early and after a really nice free breakfast we decided to get a price from the Moto drivers. They worked out really cheap so we booked a tour through them. The tour started by taking us to the Lotus lake and the white sand dunes, the views to get there were spectacular and the wind blowing through our hair was something else. We turned of the main highway and proceeded along a dirt track which reminded us of the Australian Outback. We went over the brow of the hill and there it was, the Lotus lake with the white sand dunes as the back drop, a really stunning sight. The drivers parked up and a little boy escorted us to the dunes so we could do the sledging thing. We had our flip flops on and the sand was scorching, it burnt our feet and because you had to climb up the dunes once you'd gone down, our flip flops kept getting stuck, needless to say we had enough and went back. The boy wanted money so we gave him some, he then proceeded to tear this up and have a hissy fit, it looked like fake money and guess its a way to make the tourists feel sorry. He followed us all the way back to our bikes and kept asking one more photo. So if you see a boy that looks like Peter Andre in the Mysterious Girl video say no and do it yourself.... Next we went to the red dunes and this is supposed to be better for sledging. We didn't do any sledging here, instead we took some pics and ran back to a cafe that served the most overpriced soft drinks in Vietnam.... Fairy stream next and again an annoying little boy wanting money for walking with us and telling us you can't go any further unless you pay me. The fairy stream was strange, fast flowing water but as shallow as your toes.... We returned to Mui Ne a bit P***ed off and had a shower. We then had some lunch used the internet and sat around having drinks and chatting.
Today we go to HCMC and after a much deserved lye in we pack and grab some breakfast. Then we use the internet and grab some drinks and walk to the pickup point!!!!
Mui Ne is wonderfully relaxing, much more than Nha Trang. Highly recommended as we arn't really beachy people but it had this real charm about it. Don't bypass this small fishing village, also go sledging early in the morning or late afternoon as our feet felt like sausages in a pan. The only way to experience it is on a moped like we did, natural air con the best. The drive down to Mui Ne on the coach is great and the whole outback look will become ever present sooner rather than later......
Enjoy Mui Ne, we did and thats saying something but those little kids certainly wear you down after a while......
Next stop HCMC/Saigon
