We had quite a long drive down from Noosa to our next stop Brunswick heads, it took nearly all day and it rained really hard, the drive was all along motorway so was pretty uneventful. Brunswick heads is just north of Byron Bay, we couldnt get a caravan park at Byron so decided on Brunswick heads instead. It wasn't one of the nicest places we've been so were pretty glad to get going the next day. We stopped for a few hours in lovely Byron and got soaked as it poured with rain!! We then moved further south to Emerald Beach which was just on the outskirts of Coffs Harbour, again it rained torrentially so we had to take cover in Hooters. We did see a few Kangaroos hopping about though!
We went into Coffs Harbour the following day and didn't really think much of it so made our way south to Nambucca Heads. It was really nice here and the caravan park we stayed at had the beach right next to it, we went for a walk along the beach, the waves were really high and it was quite rough. We met an English couple in the evening and spent the night chatting to them.
We moved on to South West Rocks which was a nice drive away from the motorway. It was a lovely tiny place, we set up in a caravan park and went and had a look around. The beach was tiny and cute and we went down to the river where we drove through a very narrow road between a lake. The river was nice, you could see green mountains in the distance and it was very peaceful. We had our lunch enjoying the scenery. We also went to look at the lighthouse which is apparantly the highest lighthouse in Australia, we definately burnt some fat getting up there and were rewarded with a magnificent view from the top! Our caravan park had quite a few kangaroos hopping about at night, one had a joey in its pouch, they were quite tame and were feeding right outside of hooters!
We moved on to Port Macquarie, it was a really nice place and had several beaches. We stayed for a few days. We visited the Koala Hospital, there were several Koalas walking around with drips and dressing gowns on being tended to by kangaroo nurses.......not really there were just quite a few Koalas in little trees that had been hurt in road accidents and old ladies were looking after them. They were all so cute!!! In the evening we were just finishing our tea in Hooters when out the corner of my eye I saw something run past the van, at first I thought it was a grey cat and then I realised it was a Koala!!! It ran past us and then went up the tree nearby, once it was a safe distance from us in the branches it just looked at us while we looked at him!! Was really amazing to see a wild one so close.
We moved on to Port Stephens the next day, it was quite a drive away. It was really stunning where we stayed in Nelson Bay, there was a lovely marina and lots of little pretty bays. The caravan park we stayed in was right next to the beach again and it was lovely!!! We went and looked at a few beaches, did a spot of Koala hunting (we saw one) and did a bit of walking.
We were a bit sad in Port Stephens because it was sort of our last official stop with Hooters before we hit sydney, we had to give him a bit of a sort out and tidy up. Our poor Hooters, tarting him up to sell him :-(
Next stop Sydney!!!!
