Yes, you may not believe it but I finally managed to drag myself away from the comforting arms of Dahab. What a great place - I can't possibly imagine diving anywhere else in the world that would live up to the standards of the Red Sea.. So chilled out too and of course the rumo went down far to well too! Jo was a fantastic host and i'll miss her loads. Am planning to pop in on my way back to Sharm though so she won't be rid of me for long!
So I left Dahab yesterday afternoon after mine and Lionel's last night (a tad heavy but a good farewell methinks!) and took the bus to Sharm and then the ferry over to Hurghada. Very efficient and quick ferry after the confusion at the port and we were sent on our way by some dolphins trying to keep up... Found a s***ty little room for the night and made the mistake of wandering the souk looking for food. Blimey they're a pain the backsides these egyptians! They never leave you alone and it drives you bananas! No I do not want a sheesa pipe/silver jewelrey/a stuffed camel/belly dancing clothes! It goes on and on and on! Anyway, I settled myself into a bar with a cold Sakara and book and watched the local dive clubs indulge in snorkel tests for finishing Dive Master courses which i'd see poor old Lionel have to do last week.... The staff were really nice to chat to though and made up for those annoying men in the souks!!
So had a lie in and then took the five hour bus journey south to Luxor. Very boring landscape as soon as we had left the coast. Just desert and stone - until after a few hours we reached the outskirts of the Nile Delta where there were lush green crops and palm trees and actual civilisation! It was dark when I arrived here so haven't had a good look at the Nile yet. Will be interested to see it after years of Geography teaching me about it! Had a delicious Tagen and then a beer on the hotel rooftop and now definitely ready for bed! I forgot how much travelling takes it out of you!
Planning to venture over to the West Bank tomorrow to starting investigating the tombs but am dreading the heat! There seems to be a lot to see here and have already scouted out an English pub to watch Saturday's rugby in!! The hotel won't let me upload photos here so will look for somewhere else tomorrow. xxx
