Saz's Canadian Odyssey
Well, back in Luxor i had in fact written a pretty decent blog about the temples and tombs etc but damn computer decided to turn itself of when i was halfway through. So sorry for being lazy but am not writing it all again! The temples and tombs were fascinating though.
Am now in Aswan having meant to come here on Sunday but came on the Monday instead. Was not well on Sunday so missed my train and took the next one. Met Irene on the train so we hooked up to share a room at the hotel. Aswan is hotter than Luxor but the Nile looks more beautiful here. We snuck into the Old Cataract Hotel yesterday afternoon and although we had to pay 85 LE (8.50 pounds) to go in, we had delicious high tea to set against the cost and watched the sun setting over the Nile. The hotel is ridiculously expensive and can cost up to $1500 for one night!! Its actually where Agatha Christie wrote part of Death on the Nile and where some of it was filmed. Its a beautiful hotel with lots of dressed up people compared to us!!
This morning we went to the Nubian museum which was a bit of a let down and then snuck back into the Cataract to use their pool without being questioned..! Then we took a felucca ride and watched the sunset. During the day its just too darn hot to do anything much! i have booked on a trip to go to Abu Simbel tomorrow but it means getting up at stupid o'clock for the 4 hour bus journey there! ah well, it will be worth it, i hope! Then i'm planning on taking a felucca part of the way back to Luxor... it really is the most relaxing way to travel!
More photos coming soon....!
