We had an eventful and drunken night for the girls and me playing mama Cass. Jessie-Mae and Laura ended being sick after trying to keep up with Ariel (the Yankee) drinking shots which are more like 7 in one go. So I stayed back to make sure they were ok while a handful went out in Arequipa. Sounded like an intense night with Ariel trying to jump into one of the fountains that were lit up with green lights but the policeman sternly warned her against it. A stray dog tried to mount Matt, he wrangled it off him but then it mounted AJ and tried to hump her. Matt tried to wrangle it off her but accidentally knocked her in to a wall and blood started pouring out of her head!!! A taxi pulled up and took them to the hospital. By the time she got cleaned up and back to the camp, the others had also just arrived and it was time to pack up
the camp and set off for Cuzco.
Some people jumped ship and joined the other bus (named Moose, ours is named Doris) which was great as we had more room to sleep on the long drive ahead. There was definitely a lot of sore heads that day but thankfully we got lots of sleep on the 12hr drive. Starting to get used to having to squat in the bushes next to the road and being beeped by the Peruvians driving past.
By the time we got in to Cuzco it was dark, cold and wet. We checked into our hotel and decided to brave the street stalls across the road for dinner. We ordered burgers in the best Spanish we could manage and were harassed by two guys who could speak a little bit of English. Now I'm thankful for the few words that Carolina taught me so I knew a few words they were saying calling us guappas and telling us they loved us in both Spanish and English. They were harmless but very annoying.
The other truck broke down along the way and didn't get in until after 11pm, 4hrs after us. Serves them right for wanting to leave us haha.
Was so good to chill out in the lobby with everyone then Laura, Jessie-Mae and myself watched a movie in our room and got an early night.
Next morning we had a walking tour around the city and was absolutely astounded with how stunning the city is and how safe I felt. We saw a few plazas, churches and wandered the streets. We went to San Pedro markets which was filled with fresh fruits, meats, cheeses, juice stalls, food stalls and souvenir stalls. Jessie-Mae & I picked up llama jumpers for PEN25 each ($9)!! So cute and warm and was mainly to gee up Rachel as she hates llama jumpers with marching llamas on them.
In the main square we watched some locals in a band with a whole heap of people dancing to them, so adorable and makes me super excited to learn to tango in buenos aires!!! The square was packed today as its a Sunday and everyone had been at mass. Absolutely adorable to see kids playing in the streets games like hopscotch and clapping games like we did as kids. Good to see that they can play and be so happy unlike kids back home who need rarely are outside playing these days.
We found a little restaurant just off the main square and had a soup, main of beef and rice stirfry and a drink for PEN7 ($2.20)!!! It was awesome and filling that we didn't need to eat dinner.
Wandered around some more then came back to the hotel to hang out with some of the other people on our tour, have a few drinks and cheese platter.
Supposed to be heading out tonight to Mama Africa's (the most famous club in Cuzco) but its currently pouring with rain, thunder and lightening!!! Will see how that goes.
