Cambodia Part 2 - Kampot Love, Dolphins, Tracy the Teacher and That Nasty Tchai Spices Rice Whiskey
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
So back again. So me and Shauna had been to Koh Rong that was lovely and today was the day we were going to Kep with Haley. Nick and Noah were going to meet us there later on, Kep isn't too far away from Sihanoukville so we got on this lovely teeny mini bus and were well squeezed in we ended up in Kampot and 4 more people had to get on the mini bus to Kep but there was no room. Bring on the argument by the horrible British man. Fair enough the bus company had b*****ed up but this man was going on like a right banshee there was no need for it. Me and Shauna were like 'this is why we don't appreciate the brits'. But anyways we made it to Kep found ourselves a lovely cheap 3 bedroom that was full on ants of course however you can't have it all. So we headed to the beach which was for some reason full of fake white sand, in huge piles and there was some poor man trying to flatten it out with some big tractor type thing. We then realised a music video was taking place on the beach. A man on piano singing his heart out, probably anyways I didn't hear any singing but this video will certainly be very cheesy I think. Apparently he is Cambodia's version of Justin Bieber though so that was exciting. Despite being the only white people in the village we were not asked to be in the video to my disappointment. We spent some time having a nice sunbathe and of course being photographed by the locals as if they've never seen white people before haha, so funny.
After lunch they went back to the beach for more suntan time and I got myself a motorbike driver for the afternoon and he took me up to the National Park which was amazing and he told me all about it as we went round and he said it was actually not the nicest time of year to go, as it was the dry season. In the wet season everything is more green he said but I was amazed already by how green it all was. It was so beautiful. However there were monkeys there and I did the guy I hate the b******s and if he saw any not to stop for me haha. I think he did point some out but I closed my eyes as I am not into seeing them. The National Park had a butterfly farm and the viewpoints were so nice you could see the whole of Kep. A lot of people do this trip on push bikes but it was maybe 15k return to do that and it was very hilly and hot so I thought stuff that I'll get a driver and I am so glad I did much better plan for me!
So Kep is a teeny place it's so lovely but literally nowt going on to be fair so on the night obviously the boys had arrived and the main thing to do there is actually go for Crab as its their thing so we all headed to the crab market for some beers and crab, I just get grilled crab, they all get the kampot pepper crab but I'm not a huge pepper fan. So mine is just 3 huge crabs on a plate such a mess to eat but so delicious. And theirs is a total nightmare to eat and they are covered in s*** haha. So good but not massively worth the effort I don't think I wish I had got squid instead! But hey you can't go to Kep without the crab tasting. There is also monkeys just hanging around the streets of Kep. I seriously sometimes hate Asia for the monkey situation, how the hell your streets end up in a position where monkeys roam free? It's unacceptable and they scare the s*** out of me, lucky our hotel guy tells us to tuk tuk to the markets so we don't have to walk past the evil ones. There is of course nowhere to go drinking now so after a few drinks in a pool bar where we have a huge pool championship with this little Cambodia kid who is amazing of course we head back.
The next day we get on our own long boat and head on over to Rabbit Island which is an island full of rabbits… not really. It's just a lovely island we have decided we are going to spend the night here so we get off the boat and a lady who owns the bungalows right next to where our boat stops, lets us have a bungalow for $10 between us haha score $2 a night us in 2 big double beds with mossie nets and a squatter toilet… nice. Anyways we all decide to not use the bucket shower and just go Tarzan style aka wash in the sea for the night. So we basically don't move more than 10 metres for a whole 24 hours as we don't have to. We get them to sort us some Sailor Jerry's out so we have our own tab for the whole time and our own drinks fridge and we basically just get on it. It's a sweet little place, we play a lot of card games then on the night (It's a desert island) everything goes off at 10 all the lights etc. its super quiet and we go in the sea and you can see the Phosphorescence which is magical glowing of the sea when you move your hands in it. It's basically magical plantain or something like that it's so pretty. First time I ever saw it too so I'm happy! And also a little drunk haha. Us girls head to our 3 in a bed situation and the boys try their best to drink the rest of the rum and come to bed smashed haha. There is dogs all over the island obviously barking all night and cockerels kicking off all night it's a noisy night for all but we get us have some breakfast tell the man we need to leave soon on our boat as me and Shauna have a bus booked to Kampot and Haley has to get to Phnom Penh as she is flying to Bali. So obviously Asian time means we don't get our boat for ages and just as we make it to the mainland and our tuk tuk driver pulls back in to the main park of kep mine and Shauna's bus is pulling away. Dammit. Our guy manages to get us randomly on the next one anyways so we make it to Kampot woo hoo.
We end up in a $3 a night dorm with a balcony facing over the Mekong River it's totally perfect for us! The woman who we meet hanging downstairs a mental Aussie lady basically tells us Kampot is s*** and she doesn't know what people do here and we are like 'oooh, great'. She's very unhelpful it appears later she seems to be the owners sister or something random like that but she is obviously a huge alcoholic but she's nice enough anyways. We head out on a wander and end up going for some amazing Chinese dumplings and then booking a Sunset River cruise for that night where beer is provided woohoo. So we turn up and are driven on motorbikes to the long boat and we discover we have of course basically chartered our own boat for the evening it's so nice!! We get our one beer which we drink immediately and then wish we had brought more haha. It is a nice cruise but really there isn't that much to see and the sunset wasn't really happening by the time we got back so it was a bit random but it was nice and it was cheap and it's not often you have your own long boat haha.
We had read about a cake and pie shop that is ran by a Cambodian lady and its meant to be amazing so we head there and have chicken curry pies and I get carrot cake and Shauna gets cheesecake we are so happy it Is an amazing shop her food is amazing. It turns out a French man staying at her hotel once stayed on and showed her how to cook properly so it's absolutely wow food she serves up and her hubby is Canadian and he is a big fellow and super lovely. We meet some British biker guys there they are in their 50s and travelling the world on motorbikes basically they are the coolest guys we have ever met they are nice guys! We end up going out drinking with them that night and playing some pool with them and another couple from Manchester. They all love Kampot and say you get here and never leave however we still aren't sure what people do here!?! Shauna is leaving the next day in the afternoon is during the day we walk over one of the death bridges over the Mekong (no path and a lot of motorbikes) and walk round this village where all the locals are confused as to why we are there wandering around their streets then walk back over another bridge to get back. We have a beer and some food and then Shauna heads off to Phnom Penh as she is flying to Hong Kong!
So after Shauna leaves I have a nap or something and decide to head to my hostel rooftop bar for sunset and that's where I meet Jeppe aka Yep Yep (no one can ever pronounce his name) he's from Denmark he's really impressed that I've been to Copenhagen as no one has ever been to Denmark haha. I find this a lot with people when I meet them I've generally been to their home country and people are surprised as apparently the brits who move to Oz and NZ generally have never really been anywhere in Europe but Spain (Benidorm/Magaluf) and I have obviously been to a lot of countries in Europe so I shock them? So while me and Yep watch the sunset I completely fall in love with him. He's an absolute hippy who loves travelling (I think he's me but a man) so we drink a lot of beer together and then this annoying German girl (I like to call her misery guts) comes and ruins our party. We all go for tea together but Misery is scared of street food and any food in fact it turns out as she will not eat anywhere. We end up finally at Minas Kitchen or somewhere like that and she does not look impressed me and Yep cannot take any more we want food and we want it now. So it takes her 3 hours to decide what she wants even though there is like 5 dishes to choose from. Annoying.
She leaves after dinner and heads back to the hostel as she doesn't want to stay out and get drunk. What a shame. Me and Yep head over the death bridge to the karaoke club, where of course we are invited to join the table of a rich Cambodian guy who is super sweet and buys our beers all night even though we insist we will buy them he has none of it and gets us smashed. He is being 'entertained' by some of the girls who work there. Now I must explain in SE Asia generally Karaoke Bars are basically 90% of the staff are prostitutes/working girls/on the game whatever you want to call it that's the reality anyways so all these ladies are entertaining our chap and his mate. His mate eventually leaves alone. One of the girls I am sitting next to keeps calling me sister and I love her we make her sing for us as she is a singer and she is awesome! So we end up leaving there when it shuts and our Cambodian fella asks if he can give us a lift on his bike back over our side of town we refuse as he is smashed. He also has a massive bike!! Like a Harley or something? I don't know what it was but not a normal bike anyways. So when we are walking to the bridge some wild dogs try to kill Yep and I try not to run to the hills haha the dogs are mental here like seriously crazy they scare me cos of the rabies issue but we survive anyways and end up at what ends up being my favorite bar ever in Asia. ABC bar. I instantly make friends with the barman Buntha (who is still to date my favorite Cambodian ever) we end up doing a lot of shots. Oops. And by a lot I mean a lot. I get vodka coke and it's like pure vodka with a splash of coke he will not give me more ice either it's so funny. We end up having tequilas with Buntha then he makes us have a tchai spicy rice whiskey shot which is black. It's the worst shot I have ever had and that is saying something. It's spicy like hot chilli spice. It burns all the way down its horrendous. As we drink ours Buntha then runs off and I'm like Yep he's going to be sick I swear. And of course he comes back with vomit on his face and all over his t-shirt sleeve. So of all the things I've done in my life - making a barman vomit is one of my proudest moments haha. Me and Yep are in stitches laughing at him and he starts swearing at us he is literally class I love that man!! Best barman ever!! He is such good crack! So yeah me and Yep end up smashed going to bed at 10 to 6 am oops!! Good times indeed!
The next day I have a proper lazy day and chill out in a bar reading my book and people watching, I decide to have a walk and end up catching Emily who was in my hostel in Sihanoukville getting off the bus with 2 men she had befriended. I persuade them to come check out Titch's place. They of course love how cheap it is and how central it is so check in. While they are checking in we meet a girl called Tilly from also checking in, me, her and Emily end up having a nice girls day where we go get cake from the amazing cake lady and have a nice wander around. We later head for food at the Chinese hand pulled noodle place which is awesome with Yep and then we all go and get ready for a night out Kampot style. Josh and Pabs don't end up coming as there is a match on they wanna watch that night, Misery guts comes for a bit and we end up with a new English girl Caroline just before we go out so we have a good old crew sorted out. We also get an aussie guy in our dorm who has been living in Kampot a while learning Khmer. Dorm night out yey! We have a good few drinks then all end up heading home me and Yep are still wrecked from the night before.
Kampot is a truly amazing place to be though I love it so much, it has this incredible charm about it. Its very relaxing place to be, the locals are amazing and there is a lot of expats living here for this reason. People arrive for 2 days and never leave haha. The next day me and Emily decide we need to spend a day being productive so we head to the river rapids with Pabs and Josh to chill for the day in hammocks. It is our intention to go tubing in the rapids however the dam has been opened so the water is insane so it's too dangerous to go out in. There are local kids and monks playing but they tie their tubes to rocks so they can't go out in the rapids properly as its sure death due to large drops and massive rocks. We decide we need lunch eventually and struggle to find anywhere as this is where tourists hang out so there's nothing in the way of restaurants but a lady kindly agrees to make us chicken and rice. She comes out with a live chicken saying 'is this one ok?' me and Emily kinda freak out but then accept its going to be very fresh and is definitely free range so we agree. The chicken ends up not having too much meat on it not surprisingly but the rice she serves us with these lovely vegetables is amazing it's a lush authentic meal so we are happy. When we are waiting for it this massively drunken old Cambodian lady sits with us and tries to massage Josh which of course he loves haha. Super funny. The lady who is making our dinner eventually tells her to piss off. What an adventurous day!!
That night we have another full on dorm night out with everyone apart from poor Misery Guts stays in haha thank god I really now hate her and so does Emily she is super rude to everyone and thinks she is amazing. She hates when you travel you have to ask everyone where they're from and what their plan is. If you don't like the meeting people when travelling you probably shouldn't be travelling love! Stupid Misery! We all go on a pub crawl which is awesome, we start in the night market getting some lovely noodles and beers and watching the kids play on the dodgems, it's the opposite of what the dodgems were like in the Metro Centre years ago though guys. It's like they don't realise you are meant to crash they all just drive around in a circle as though they are taking their driving tests haha. Super funny.
We head to the Margarita/Tequila Tattoo Parlour Bar place where I have been wanting to visit for ages and the Irish Pub Called Oh Reilly's. Obviously we end up in ABC with Buntha best barman ever as I have now been here basically every night as it's my home in Kampot. Of course everyone fizzles out eventually and heads home apart from me, Yep and Caroline who is hammered haha, she is a wicked lass I love her. The highlight of all of our nights however is when we are in ABC all realising we are starving and it's so late even the supermarkets are shut so we can't get any food (no maccas or kebab shops here) when we suddenly end up befriending a Cambodian guy who is going through a divorce which he seems sad about. I mention we are so hungry and he's all like 'oh I can get you some food I know where there is food' and off he goes. He comes back with these meat baguettes with spicy salad we are sooo happy. The 'meat' is clearly some kind of spam/luncheon ham but its fricking amazing. We need this sandwich for sure! He refuses to take any cash from us but we all give him some dollars and he buys us all beers with the money as he wants to show us what Cambodia is about. What a bloody lovely gem of a guy. This is one of the reasons I love Cambodia the people are so generous and genuine. After the food we are ready to take on more beers and cocktails woo hoo. To end our time in ABC me and Buntha do some horrendous shots together to toast our beautiful friendship. It is perfect as me, Emily and Yep all leave tomorrow to different destinations so it's a lovely end to our time here having such a nice bonding night out.
So the next day we all leave it's so sad as I don't want to leave Kampot as its my favourite place on earth I think, but to Phnom Penh I go, my bus basically breaks down on route but its fixed and I arrive finally back at Mad Monkey my PP home. I find Noah from Sinhanoukville/Kep/Rabbit Island there celebrating his birthday so we have some beers of course. I meet a lad called Kieran and we end up on the hunt for food and being driven home after getting lost by PP night security haha. Of course I was super late leaving Kampot as no matter how much time I have to catch my bus I just do everything at the last minute so I end up forgetting my phone charger. Nightmare. So I spend my first day back in PP searching for one of course the fake iApple shop sells them for like $60 but have none?! As if I would pay that though! I end up getting a fake one for $3 which is way better of course I am so happy I almost kiss the guy I can't not have a phone haha. But on the way looking for a shop I encounter a little Cambodian boy about3 to 4 years old maybe, I am just about to start eating my breakfast which is a 30cent baguette from the bakery. He comes over and says 'lady I am so hungry' so I almost have a breakdown and immediately give him the baguette. It's so sad cos they never ask for food generally it's always for money so when a kid asks for food you know he's starving! His teeny little brother then comes over and also tells me he's hungry and his brother (who has the baguette now) is like 'it's ok we have this' and they happily skip off with the food.
So anyways that night my dorm is becoming amazing my new mates Jazz, Justin, Sam, George and others I forget but it's basically 2 aussies, 2 English and 2 Israelis plus a few more we go for dinner in a really fancy restaurant there is so many of us we get a private room away from the poor people haha. It's a shame as the food is terrible and pricey but we have a laugh which is the main thing and we are now all bonded which is perfect as we are getting drunk tonight as its teapot night at the hostel which means it's 3 for 2 teapot cocktails and they come with shot glasses and a lot of spirits in them. Me and Jazz get 3 for us to share. They are so strong we really struggle to drink them. We end up in Love Bar which is awesome and then in heart of darkness which is definitely a gay bar. I make friends with a lot of gay Cambodian men wearing makeup and have a lot of free shots and then end up going home early (so I thought it was actually about 4am) I have school tomorrow… oops.
I get picked up early as it's a 2 hour tuk tuk ride there. It's the bumpiest road ever. It's a nightmare. So dusty my driver gets me a dust mask so I look soo cool and very fricking Asian. The road is so bumpy it hurts my boobs! All the way people wave at the crazy white lady in the sticks haha. It's so funny it's like Britney has came to town!
The kids in the school are absolutely gorgeous! I fall in love with them all immediately. They are all like 'Hello Teacher' every time I get them to repeat certain English words I am teaching them and then let them sit down they're all like 'thank you teacher' they are so cute I love them so much. They are all so smart though and they are interested in learning English and they ask me so many questions. After each class they high-five me and cuddle me. It's so much fun working there. I am given a large stick in one of the classes and I worry it's to hit them haha but it's not it's for the blackboard so I can point at what I want them to say. They have some awesome English books though and it's all focusing on their pronunciation. They are so funny and they are always asking me about whether I have a boyfriend or girlfriend. It's so funny. They are fun to teach and after classes they sometimes come back for extra lessons with me on a night as I am there until I can get my lift home which is by now a motorbike as I can't stay in the village where the school is. On a night I get them to spell things out for me on the blackboards and ask them to draw me things. They spell my name in Khmer for me which is sweet and they just seem so happy to have me there it's so lovely. Every day at the school they feed me insane amounts for lunch I was getting a full fish (eyeball and all), bowl of rice, bowl of soup and a bowl of spicy ginger salad which is horrendous! Its way to much, please remember it is also so goddamn hot there isn't much in the way of aircon here haha. There is 3 classrooms in the school 2 nice indoor ones and 1 outside wooden shack thing. The one toilet is a terrible squat toilet. I donate a big bag of rice (so big I can't carry it) to the school as they feed the kids which is nice. The head teacher opened the school as there wasn't one. There is like 1700 people who live in the village and only around 150 kids can come to school as that's how much room there is. So the school is mainly full of girls as the village's main trade is of course farming which is the same for most of Cambodia there is so much land there and cows. Obviously farm work is more man's work than women, the point of the girls going to school is so then they can teach the rest of their family English afterwards on a night. It's more useful to send girls when boys can do more physical graft on the farms. It's sad that such a small percentage can go to school but it was only build a few years ago so it's better than what they had before this which was nothing. It is seriously the most rewarding thing I have ever done. They were such lovely children, the teachers were so grateful to have the extra help too and the kids really want to learn which was lovely. So much fun I had there it was so sad when I left.
So anyways one night when I was back in PP our dorm decided they wanted Happy Herb Pizza and I was like 'nooooooooooooooo' so I agreed to go but not eat any on the condition they didn't eat where I had my awful Opium one. So we headed to the Riverside and went into a Happy Herb shop, only 4 people have happy pizzas the rest of us are like hell no. Jazz gets a super happy to my dismay (and he's training to be a doctor haha) but anyway they look very different to the ones we had. Doesn't seem to be too much weed or whatever on them. Jazz and George get super happy literally grinning and almost falling asleep everywhere in the hostel so we figure they got real happy pizzas haha. The next night we go to the night market for food which is amazing and soo cheap I end up getting a deep fried Oreo which is sweet. I do end up getting rice soup which I had been desperate to try. It was gross. Never mind though I got some weird fried spring roll type ball things too which were better. There is also some kind of strange show on in the night market which is like a play its very weird and very Asian. I love this part of the world! You couldn't make up half the things you see here. We're all sitting on the floor in the food area eating and some cheeky b***** comes over all like 'can I have some food' and he wants what we're still eating and none of what we have left over haha. We're like piss off if you're that hungry you'd take anything!
On my last day in PP I meet with Josh from Kampot for a beer to collect my iPhone charger (yey) him, I'm heading to Kratie the next day and so is he!! And he says Pabs is there already! I am buzzing with this news as they're cool guys and also I hear Kratie is a bit quiet so probs not to many friends to be made there. So it's worked out nicely! I message Pabs and he tells me where to head when I arrive so I'm also happy I have accommodation sorted as I was struggling to figure out where to stay. I get to my bus in the morning it's a horrible stinky mini bus - noooo! I end up after waiting 1 hour and not moving to a new bus where I sit next to this lovely Cambodian girl she's going to Kratie to her cousins wedding. She talks to me all day (7 hours) and is sweet but I want to sleep dammit haha) the mini bus is also so hot I'm just sitting a pool of my own sweat. She invites me to her cousins wedding… haha not sure what her family would say if I turned up. Such a shame. But nevermind. I don't plan on going anyway as I'm now down to only a few days left in Cambodia and I'm getting scared as I don't want to leave as I love it here!!
So I finally arrive at my hostel I see Pabs and off we go for food and many beers. To celebrate my arrival and our reuniting of course. An Irish lad from our dorm comes and meets us and we all get wasted. By this point we realise there is no beds for when Josh arrives, but Irish had a hammock that we hang between the dorm beds in the middle of the room so he sleeps there for free haha. Good times. We all spend the night getting hammered and being jolly backpackers. The next day I get up have a leisurely breakfast then sort myself a moto driver for the day to take me to the Dolphins on the Mekong River double yey!! So this lovely guys takes me there through all these amazing villages It's a lovely drive ( again I could have cycled here but almost same price for a moto driver and I'm extremely lazy) we arrive at the boat terminal haha it's more of a shack where you pay the national park fee and get on your own long boat. My boat driver couldn't speak a word of English so when he spotted Dolphins for me he just made random noises haha it was hilarious. What a sweetie! I saw tons of them it was so lovely and amazing. I have now seen a fair few dolphins since leaving the UK but yep it's just a lovely moment when you see them and they always travel in pairs or groups so you rarely see just one dolphin! Its dry season so apparently it's easier to spot them as the water levels aren't as high but either way I did see a lot so I was happy!! Another thing that you would not expect to see in Cambodia!
Kratie is a lovely place though it's a sweet little town, a lot of old French style buildings, a lot of markets and just lovely locals. Scary ass dogs again though haha. There is a creepy guy from Israel who tries to befriend me and I don't like him so I demand Pabs and Josh take me out for tea, drinks and general security issues. I decide I am going to head to Kampong Cham the next day for 2 nights as I feel I should try to see as much of Cambodge as I can before I leave. So I get my bus sorted and the next morning I get up and off I go. For some reason it takes us 5 hours to do 90 km but we do go right next to the Vietnamese border as I get a 'welcome to Vietnam' text?! I end up in this sweet guesthouse where I have my OWN ROOM oh my god!! What a luxury and I have a double bed. Woo hoo! It's the first time I have had my very own room since I lived in Henrys living room haha. But really my last proper room to myself was in Melbs in April!! Crazy what happens when you become a backpacker. Of course my guest house is right on the Mekong River which is sweet. So when I arrive I'm super excited so I walk right over the biggest bridge over the river to the French Tower, I end up going what Henry would call the Jungle Route, which is on the road then under the bridge through the jungle, over some sand dunes, past some men laying electrics and I make it! More scary ass dogs. Standard. The French Tower is mad, it just a random tower like where Rapunzel lived. To get to the top you have to climb the mad ladder steps so it's scary but I get all the way to the top there is no one else there but some bratty local kids who I don't like. The view isn't amazing as just walking over the bridge but never mind it's nice to do. I feel very proud at the end. I am now super exhausted as I have walked a fair way and I have to walk all the way back over the Mekong. When I get back to my side I decide to walk to the Bamboo Bridge to see what it's like as its hand made every year by the locals, entirely made of bamboo sticks and leads to an Island and is just a mad thing to see! Cars and motorbike can drive over it. It does not look hugely safe but definitely looks awesome. I see a man washing his horse in the Mekong next to the bamboo bridge which is nice to see. It's a lush horse.
That night I have tea with a sweet old chap from Holland called Tom, he's on the hunt for a new home in Asia. He loves my farmer tales and I love his knowledge of the world, he has been everywhere! And has a wicked sense of humour. Proper nice guy. I then decide to go for a beer in a fancy Charlie Chaplin bar where they have… Magazines!! Happy days! Small luxuries are nice!!
The next day I get myself a motorbike driver for the day to do a Kampong Cham tour which is absolutely wicked! We head to Wat Hanchey which is an amazing temple all bright colours and weird animals randomly placed. Apparently they have a gibbon there but I fail to spot him. I met a lovely Scottish chap up there we both discuss our love for Cambodia and admire the wicked views. There is a sandbank island in the river that is completely underwater during wet season and apparently as soon as its dry season the farmers plant there as its good fertile land. Amazing! They are good farmers here! I then head to Woman Hill and Man Hill. The story goes back in the day a woman gave her kid up and he came back years later and fell in love with his mam and did not know who she was but she knew who he was so said we will have a competition women will build against the men whoever builds the biggest hill wins so if women win she does not have to marry her son and if he wins she will wed him basically. So the women built this hill then set a fire so the men stopped working as they thought it was sunrise and they had to stop then so the women continued and ended up winning of course. Woman Hill is high but crap and Man hill is not so high but is more amazing to spend time on, although there is a ton of monkeys up there. I told my driver I hate them and he then insisted on buying me a coke so I had to have a drink in close proximity to the horrible monkeys which did not please me. It was funny though as the lady monks were chasing them away from the rice they were drying outside the temple.
That day I also went to the Reclining Buddha temple, Wat Nokor where I was blessed again. It's a really old Angkor style temple area it's quite beautiful. We then drove over the bamboo bridge which was so much fun and so noisy!! The island is called Koh Pene and we met the little cute tobacco kids who sit on the floor picking out the best tobacco leaves for cigarettes. This little girl who I met there was like 2 she was so gorgeous it looked like she was playing in the leaves but it's so much more sinister it's so sad, kids just don't have the lives we lead in Western Europe. Also in Cambodia there is so many signs up saying make sure you report any kind of child abuse you might see as a lot of kids are prostituted out by their families and there is a lot of sex tourist paedophiles but luckily I didn't see any of that going on but it's even shocking when you see the signs and a lot of hostels/hotels say underage sex is illegal on your room walls. So it obviously does go on - not a nice thought!
I end up meeting a lovely couple in Kampong Cham from Australia Dave and Sam. Sam is from Thailand and they give me their phone number to call them anytime I need anything when I'm in Oz! Such nice guys. We had a few beers on the night outside the local food stalls, Dave put his music on and we chilled out on the banks of the Mekong. There was a power cut it was so cool though the stars were lovely. Dave by this point had Motown playing so it was awesome. A nice moment in life when you just enjoy nice simple company and your surroundings. They were lovely to spend time with as they were smart, well-travelled and extremely good crack!!
The next day was my final journey back to Phnom Penh, I got myself sorted out. I was back in Mad Monkey the staff all know me by now and loved having me back and I got my same bed back again which is hilarious!! I have my own bed there I have been so much! I got many hello and then goodbye for good hugs which was happy and sad! I got to see Ein again who is my favourite waitress there she is just gorgeous and is sponsored to worked there and she was leaving the next day to go back to school, who sponsors her is paying for her education so she is going back to learn more hospitality trade as she wants to work in a 5* hotel. She is absolutely adorable, very young and the only person in her family to go to school! I have her on FB and I promised when I come back to Cambodia I will visit her for sure!! I was so happy I caught her before she left.
That night my final night in what has been my favorite country in the whole of SE Asia ever I had a few beers (obviously) with an Aussie couple from Adelaide. They were telling me of their plans to make a difference here in Cambodia all night and their fundraising plans. It just makes you realize there are so many good people in the world and it's mainly always the dickheads who are documented. A nice way to end my time here anyways though just a quiet few some intelligent conversation and lots of hugs from my Mad Monkey Family!
The next day I was up super early grabbed a motorbike taxi to the airport and it was off to Singapore I go!!
Goodbye Cambodia you have been absolutely more than amazing!! Much love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
