I was up by 6 and checked out by 7. The metro ride went smoothly. It
took about 1/2 an hour and 3 changes to get to the Madrid Atrocha
station.
I arrived at the station and enjoyed a café con leche (coffee with
steamed milk) while I waited for the platform to be announced.
At the moment, I'm sitting on the train waiting yet again. I've come
to realize that travelling involves patience - and plenty of it. I
seem to always be waiting for something; a train, a metro, a ticket,
etc.
I'll be glad to get to Granada. I will have somewhat of a routine.
Hopefully I have a good schedule for my Spanish course. Preferably,
morning class, then the rest of the day will be for me to enjoy and
discover Granada.
If I recall, my first train ride was when I was 23 in Stratford,
Ontario. I know, I was deprived but it was a pleasant experience. It
truly is a great way to travel! It may take slightly longer to arrive
at your destination, but usually the station is easily accessible,
where airports tend to be out of the way and more difficult to get to.
When I arrived at the Granada train station, a driver picked me up and dropped me off at the residence. This was all preplanned through Don Quijote language school.
The person in charge at the residence was very helpful. She showed me around and gave me keys to my room.
My room is cozy and spacious. It overlooks a beautiful terrace.
The weather is beautiful here. I hope it stays this way for the remainder of my stay.
I went to a local grocery store, bought a few things so I can prepare and eat my own food. I also did some laundry. I only packed lightly, so I have to do laundry more frequently or I will have no clothes to wear! Yikes!
I wanted to be prepared for the morning, so I walked down to Don Quijote school. It was about a 20 minute walk. Since the streets are poorly labelled, it´s easy to get lost, and of course, I did. It is easy to get back on track though, I just have to walk to the nearest street that has a street name!
I´m glad I had a day to settle into the residence. There are a few students that are here for the school year, and others that come and go on a weekly basis. Hopefully I will meet a few people tomorrow in my course.
