After arriving at the Reykjavik airport, we had to say a really quick goodbye to the whole group because they had a connection to catch. There weren't any tears, mostly because we were really excited to be headed out into Iceland. Our baggage came our really fast, so we were out of the airport (no customs!) and onto a bus really quickly, which was super easy because we had bought our bus-pass on the plane on the flight in.
The bus ride into town was actually pretty long, so it was nice that there was wifi on the bus, but I was still more interested with the landscape outside. It really looks like Viking land. It really flat on the ocean side, and then suddenly, there are mountains. It looks a lot like where we stayed in Hawaii, probably because it's all volcanic rock. Of course, there is almost nothing for trees, and that's probably because of the really dark winters. But everything had a layer of green on it, with the black volcanic rock underneath.
We finally made it to our hostel after transferring to a small bus. The driver drove very slowly through the city, but that was fine because we were all looking out the windows. The hostel had accidentally booked me into a different room from the other girls, despite my email to them. So I was stuck in the room, but they promised to move me over the next day, which was fine (plus a free breakfast). We had booked a trip to the blue lagoon that night (a nice little evening package with the bus ride out there), so we grabbed our swimsuits, got changed and stood outside for our bus.
Bus was a bit late, and then it was another super long ride out to the lagoon because it's out near the airport, but as soon as we drove up to it, we knew it was a good idea. The landscape was really neat - the big black rocks with this milky blue water running through them. And even though it was around 9pm, because of the latitude Iceland is at, it was still wonderfully light out. We got our wristbands to go in, with towels, bathrobes, and free samples as well.
Soon enough, we were sliding into the beautifully hot water of the Lagoon. It was fantastic to have some relaxing time after such a long, exhausting choir tour. It was nice to get some peace and quiet. We wandered around the lagoon for a bit, as it was fairly large. And we sat over by the hot water spout for a while. With our package deal, we got free drinks, which was nice because the water was really warm, and we also got free face masks. One face mask to exfoliate, and the other to leave on. They came in cold, small cups, and all you had to do was put the ball in the water for a bit to soften them. We all tried both of the face masks.
While the second face mask was drying on our faces, we wandered around the lagoon again, over to the far side where there was a big waterfall that you could use as a back massager, seating areas, and saunas that we went into. We stayed in as long as we could, and by the end, when it was past midnight, we were the only ones left in the lagoon, so we finally got out into our fluffy robes, showered and left to wait for the bus.
We took a scenic route back to the parking lot, so we walked along a path with the rocks and the blue water. It was just lovely, and even at 1am, it was still really light out, so the walk was really beautiful. We waited for the bus, and even though we were a bit damp, we were pretty warm. The bus seemed to take forever to get back to the hostel, and because it had been such a long day with such an early start, I was asleep as soon I got in bed.
