Because it was our last day and we'd been leaving in the evening to head back home, we needed to finish packing. Which meant that Zach went through his list of souvenirs he was supposed to bring back home for family and decided he needed to go up to the shops again. So we went back up and picked up key chains, mugs and things.
Zach got to decide what he wanted to do for our last day. He wanted to go boogie boarding again because he like that more than watching fish, which I'm a little surprised at. I think he also wanted to soak in some extra sun so he was tanned enough everyone would be jealous when he got back. The beach was lovely and sunny again, but the waves were a bit more tame this time around.
It was actually really nice to sit around on the beach and have the last little bit of relaxing before heading home. Zach was out riding waves for hours and even tried to stand up on his board. That didn't work so well. I don't think he has the balance for it.
The best part of the day, however, came after supper when we decided to go down the beach and watch the sun set before we had to head off to the airport. We'd joked about seeing the green flash because my parents have only seen it once in their lives. It's not something that usually happens, and until they had seen it they thought it might have been a myth. We urged everyone to go down to the beach just in case. It was a lovely clear night, and even walking down to the beach was nice with how golden the sun was.
Down on the beach there were other people waiting to watch the sunset too. And turtles as well, apparently, because there were a couple up on shore basking in the last of the light. We had made it just in time to watch the sun start to go down. And we had such a perfect view of the sun too. The sand under your toes, the palm trees behind, the turtles in front and a sunset. Perfect.
We all watched intently as the sun was almost down. And there it was! The bright flash of green light! And half a second after the flash of green light, a whale breached out of the water and splashed right back down right infront of the last bit of sun. I can't make this stuff up. It was a spectacular thing that will probably never happen again.
We finally dragged ourselves away from the beach and back home. It wasn't too much longer until we had to start heading out to the airport. And when we were finally in the airport after a really long wait to get our bags checked, and a long security line, it was still really hot. I had to drink a lot of water and fan myself. I think I might have gotten a lot of sun sitting out on the beach during the day, so I was overheating because my skin was retaining some of the heat. It was nice to finally get on an air conditioned plane, but hard to say goodbye to such a lovely place and go back to the snow.
