After supper, Dave was still wondering if he'd be able to walk along the beach near our first snorkeling spot and see Neil Young's house. So we took a drive out and walked along the beach again. At the far end, and across some water, we could see on another beach there was a whole pack of turtles. There wasn't any really good way of getting to them, which sucked. But then, Dave still wanted to see if he could find the house, so we decided to keep driving along the road that followed the beach, and maybe we'd be able to find a place to get out to the beach and go see some turtles too.
We found one pull out with beach access, but Dave still wanted to look for the house, so we kept driving. We thought we'd found it, but it was all gated off, so Dave decided that was good enough and we should try to walk along the beach to get to the turtles. So we stopped at another beach access part that was quite far away from where we'd seen the turtles. Getting down to the beach was no problem, but we could already see it was going to be hard to walk along next to the houses along the 'beach' to get to the turtles.
If we're being honest, there was no beach. It was just water, coral, and lava rocks. We decided that we'd walk anyway because we really wanted to see some turtles. And the sun was setting soon, so we'd probably get a good view of the sunset. So, we trekked along. Some of it was easier walking with just a bit of coral beach. Other parts you had to hike up your pants to wade knee-deep through water just to get to the next rock. Thank goodness we have a waterproof camera. I did pretty well and didn't get very wet at all. Didn't fall in either.
It was a MUCH farther walk than we had anticipated, but along the way, we saw a couple lonely turtles hanging out on some rocks. They let us get pretty close. After about half an hour we finally came across the beach with the pack of turtles. There were probably about ten of them all the way from in just out of the water to all the way up and into the bushes. We hung around and watched them for a while, and then, because there was no easy way to get to another beach, we backtracked to the first pull-out we'd seen, then walked along the road to get to the cars. It was completely dark by the time we got there. The sun sets pretty quickly near the equator.
