The morning was nice because we didn't have to get up too early, just early enough to pack and clean up our rooms. I was really glad that I'd bought some groceries the other night because it meant that I didn't have to go over to the other breakfast and could just pack and clean. We brought our keys and bags down and got ready to depart. We had to say goodbye to Simona. Then, back on the bus for a long ride into Estonia.
We had a quick stopover at the border (that is now totally open because of the EU, but there's still a restaurant). I got a chicken noodle soup with some salad to tide me over, and then spent some time looking at the chocolates they had in the gift shop. It's always interesting to see which foods are universal and the interesting options other places have. After that it was back on the bus to finish the five and a half hour drive.
I've been to Tallinn before, with the choir no less, but as we drove in I didn't recognize much. Not that it was terribly surprising because it had been 8 years since I'd last been there. We were all really happy to stretch our legs once we reached our hotel. I was roomed with Emily B. We had a bit of time to settle in before we were supposed to meet back at the bus.
Emily and I put our bags up in our room, then decided to go for a little bit of a walk to stretch and see where we were. We walked a block or so in one direction, towards the Old Town. And when we saw the wall of the old city, things started to come back to me. I definitely remembered that part of the city. But, the bus was leaving soon, so we headed back fairly quickly.
Begrudgingly, we got back on the bus. They drove us to their big outdoor performance center so we could see it. (I'd seen it last time we were there.) Once again, we'd missed the festival by a couple days. After the quick stop, we were back on the bus for a drive to a place outside the city.
