We had a flight booked from Denver to Gatwick for Thursday, there is only one flight a day out of Moab to Denver so we decided to fly Tuesday - if the flight was cancelled Tuesday at least we could try again Wednesday. A hurricane was battering Florida and stormy weather along wth snow was heading to Denver. Southern England was due to be hit by a storm and high winds Friday morning. Was the weather going to conspire to prevent us from getting home? After rigourous security checks at Moab we arrived at Denver airport just over an hour later. We had a hotel booked outside the town. Donna wouldn't be cooking for a change. We headed over the road for dinner. Neither of us finished our meals, there was just too much. Everyone else around us seemed to have no problem clearing their plates and extra sides and then consuming huge slices of pie afterwards! After a good nights sleep in a huge bed we decided not to head into Denver for the day, from what we googled it didn't seem like the most inspiring city in the world. We marvelled instead at that magic box in the corner - a TV!!! Donna popped to the gas station in hope of bringng back some sandwiches for lunch and appeared back with hot fresh pizza instead (and a bag of pork crunch!!). These gas stations sell a lot more than gas. We made the most of the hotels internet before heading out for dinner once again. It was free pie Wednesday. just buy a drink and you get the choice of a free large slice of Cherry, 3 berry, pumpkin, cream pumpkin, Apple or French silk pie. There were a whole load more choices but you had to pay for those. Wantng to taste some of this pie especially as it was free we shared a main then moved onto pie - wow, delicious. There seemed to be a lot more people dining on Wednesday - the pie must be something to do with it. The 8 hour flight home whizzed by and soon we were landing in Blighty. The only problem was when they were serving breakfast it was actually time for us to sleep - so we didn't get any sleep Thursday night at all. We made quick connections after landing, coach to Birmingham airport, train to Sandwell and Dudley and a short taxi ride home. Despite the miserable weather we were both very happy to be back, 428 days from when we quit to our jobs to see the world. It didnt go quite as we planned and we have had more than our fair share of bad luck but it was all worthwhile. Besides the great memories and thousands of photos we also have new friends and we have to find space to display our collection of fridge magnets, postcards and license plates from South and North America - we never collected anything on the tandem across Europe apart from aching legs as we simply couldn't carry any more weight. Now back to the real world - buy a car, get jobs. Donna made sure we had a TV license, we did that on line from our Denver hotel (currently using the neighbours wifi). Thank you to everyone who has followed our blog, we hope you enjoyed the photos and diary as much as we did experiencing it all. There will be new adventures but on a lesser scale, can't wait to get to get Titty the tandem back out on the road.

Adam Welcome home, enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to catching up soon!
Michael Stevenson Good to hear you are back safe and sound, will see if I can get over to Bobbington for a spin before the clocks change!
Alan Heeley Welcome home Donna and Tony. Not the perfect ending but I guess when you look back at the whole experience the last bit will seem insignificant. What an achievement overall, something most of us dream about but only 0.001% ever have the guts to do. Well done!
Mark Gaskin What an adventure you had... one for the ages. Too bad we couldn't get together when you were so close to us. Oh well, maybe next time we are in Brum . :) Oh, did I miss reading something.... what did you do with Tilley? xx
Peter Burnett Welcome back, I reckon it will about Thursday when you start planning your next trip! Pete
