Arrival at Ljubljana train station to rain, rain, rain - but that's better than snow! A short cycle to our apartment at Barbo Palace. Lots of locals on bicycles but virtually all of them were riding one hand on the handlebars and the other holding a brolley over them! We spent two nights here so a full day as tourists, a showery tour round the castle and the old town and the weather just got worse as the showers turned into a non stop pi**ing down deluge. It doesn't take long to explore Ljubljana, as capitals go it's tiny - population just 300,000. Donna's sister has asked if we are living off burgers and pizzas - no but that's all we seem to take photos of. What you dont see is the culinary masterpieces that Donna rustles up - Pastas, curries, chillies, and if we have an oven then a roast dinner (our bisto supply is almost out though). We have had some more 'local' dishes but nothing too adventurous - when you need energy so you can pedal the next day then having something you can eat is very important. When booking apartments we go for a stovetop (2 ring hob) as a minimum requirement. At our Barbo Palace apartment we couldn't see the stove top, then we found it in a drawer - a portable, plug in, one ring thing!! Donna still worked miracles on it though - Ravioli, bolognaise and curry (not all together).
