Overshoes on, waterproof trousers on, waterproof coat on. Yes, another wet start. We don't like cycling in / out of cities as the traffic is normally shocking and the roads frightening, fortunately there are good cycle paths leading all the way out of Ljubljana. Back to looking for bus shelters for somewhere dry to sit and eat. The rain dried up, but the road then went up as well. Arrived at Postonja in plenty of time for the last cave tour of the day. Even though I visited Postonja caves in 1985 I had forgotten how impressive they are. The tour starts with a two KM underground train ride, that bit is impressive enough but when you get off the train for a 1,5 km cave walk it just gets better & better. We were both in awe of what is one the largest and best cave tours in the world. The photos don't do it justice, you have to see it first hand. Even though we got dripped on in the caves it was still a drier experience than the morning ride. Seeing as we could only get digs in a hotel (no apartments) then we had to eat out. Not many eating places open here in November, and what we did find was expensive. We found an Italian restaurant and Donna just had to order the pizza with cheese, tomato, frankfurters and fries just to see what it was - well just check out the photo! Another wet departure as we left Postonja. Before stopping for lunch Donna spotted the sea - our first view of a coastline since leaving Calais. We rode into Italy and had a hair-raising descent down to the sea. We braved the traffic of Trieste the drivers are crazy. Glad we booked somewhere further up the coast as Trieste was disappointing. Had difficulty persuading staff at Hotel Miramare to find somewhere inside for Titty, they wanted us to lock her up in the street. Eventually they unlocked a door to a room big enough for a dozen Titty's! Strolled around Miramare park and castle grounds for free, far prettier than Trieste. Another hotel means another meal out. The hotel restaurant is way too pricey for us, so the choice was a Pizzeria (again) or the 'Old Wild West' burger & steak house. So, we sat in a covered chuck wagon and asked for menus!

Alan Heeley I know I have been quiet for some time, but I am following the blog avidly. It is truly fantastic, so detailed and really gives the sense of being there. The photos are also brilliant. I have nothing but admiration; it makes my puny little bike rides pale into nothing.
Phil (Oldham) Ant & Donna at least your heading for warmer climes....hope Italy is drier for you...& your back wheel is working well...just keep pedalling
