What a day!!!!!!!!! It started with no breakfast at the hotel, fortunately we had some pre-packed croissants and apple juice which we devoured whilst sitting outside on chairs made out of pallets. On the plus side the sun was shining and we did get titty out of the alarmed hotel at 8.30 as they promised. So off we went and boy did my legs ache, so Donna's must ache as well. The plan was instead of having one day off in Budapest and wear our legs out touring the city on foot to have two days off (Donna really wanted a week as her body aches). So we booked somewhere more expensive than we woud have liked with the benefit of a swimming pool, steam room, etc. Our tired legs were gad to finally arrive in Budapest. Titty had to be uncoupled into two pieces to get her into the lift and up to our apartment. Then the first mission was to find a bike shop to get our buckled rear wheel rebult with new spokes or trued up at the minimum. The guy in the bike shop took a careful look at our wheel and pointed out that it had a large crack in the rim - oh b*****. Now the technical stuff for all the cyclists reading - They didn't have and couldn't get a 48 spoke rim to replace our cracked one - they phoned other shops in Budapest to no avail. We had invested in good quality wheels - Andra 30 - 26 inch 48 spoke rims with ceramic facing (for swiss top blue brake blocks) with DT Alpine III 2.5mm spokes 4X. With the Budapest bike shops drawing a blank on getting us sorted we phoned JD Tandems in North Yorkshire - they are building us a new wheel and sending it tomorrow but what with the weekend it probably won't be here until Monday, so our 3 night stay has now been extended into a 6 night stay. We can't check out and go somehere cheaper as we have had to use this address for the new wheel to be posted to! So Donna get's to rest our legs after all.

Phil Not a good day Ant...you must be concerned about the reliability of your wheel or have you hit a pothole exceptionally hard...hope you get it sorted and enjoy your few days off....you'll have to stop eating so many puddings lol
Tony & Donna Whilst we had the camping gear we experienced a lot of rough cycle paths and i guess i forced the oace too hard along them, since losing the camping gear (and Tatty) the weight on the back has reduced significantly but we have had some god damn awful roads through Czech, Slovakia and Hungary. JD Tandems are extremely surprised about the cracked rim. Was the damage done initially when we had camping gear or on the crap roads since? It is a concern, i guess starting with a new good quality wheel and spokes with the lighter load is the best way forward. I have read lots of touring tales form tandem and solo riders and rear wheels are commonly an issue. If we make it past Europe then the concern is obviously how bad the roads will be and how will our wheels cope????
Ced We are socialising Thu, Fri, Sat night and the Hash is Sunday. You are more than welcome.
