Inka Jungle Trek Day One
Finally got to start a tour! We drove to the top of this mountain, Ollantaytambo, and then came back down the other side a little, where we set ourselves up for the bike ride!
There was 13 of us all laughing when they pulled out this bag of armour for as to put on! Knee and shin pads, upper body suit with elbow, shoulder, chest and spinal pads, plus helmets and high visibility jackets!! But I'm glad we had it all on!!
We started in the clouds where it was wet and visibility was about 5m ahead. Abra Malaga was 4350m above sea level. We rode down the windy hill of the mountain, it was surprising how fast we were going! We were also pushing ourselfs, as there was a road block that was due to close at 1pm and we started the 2hr ride at 11.45, as Peruvian time... We were late getting there this morning, after a guide didn't turn up and Antonio was rudely awoken to come take our group!
We made the road closure, If we hadn't we would've had to wait until 6pm for it to open again!! Me and Belinda, a Canadian girl, were out in front and continued past the little village of San Luis and found ourselfs starting to go up hill! No one else was near so we thought we'd sit down in the shade an take some layers off as it was roasting :-) we waiting for a good 30mins, as we were determined not to go back to the little village and have to do that hill again, then our mini bus appeared with all the bikes on the roof! Apparently the ride finished in the village.... :-)
We are staying at another little village, Santa Maria 1250m above sea level, there is like one of everything, one petrol station, one shop, one bar, where our food was great, they really did well to cater for me :-) so I'm well fed and hopefully, back on track ready for tomorrow!!
The 8hr trek starts at 6.30am ...... Blurrrr!!
