On leaving Arusha we had two days in the truck to get to Dar es Salem, the biggest city in Tanzania. Driving through the city was an experience with so many different sights and smells that made you know you were definetely in Africa. The city has a large natural harbour which we had to get a ferry across to reach our campsite right on the beach. The water was like swimming in a bath.
The next morning we got the ferry across to Zanzibar, spending a day in the capital stone town, with lots of narrow alleyways great for exploring and getting lost in. I decided to party that night and i now have a few african buddies, the best of which is a lad called rasmus who is a rastafarian identical to emanuel adebayor who has a pet monkey called mr Johnson!!
We then went up to the northern beaches with picture perfect beaches of clear white sand and turqouise water, some of the best beaches i've ever seen anyway. It was nice to spend a few days just relaxing on the beach and mucking around. Went for a few walks, a run and some swimming in the surf. Also went on a snorkelling trip off the cost of a paradise isalnd that was once rented by bill gates for the millenium.
Swam with giant turtles yesterday which was cool. Then went in the sea and stepped on a sea urchin which was rather painful, quite a few splinter like neddles in my big toe, so fingers crossed that will heal up ok.
Going back to the main land today and heading south west to spend a bit of time on lake Malawi.
Missing everyone back home, hope all are well
