hello birds, tommi here. today is our last day in chiang mai so i thought i'd fill you all in on what we have been doing.
since andy left his message, we visited the sunday market in the city, aswell as the night bazar. both are really cool and you can guy loads of knock-off goods. we bought fake rolex's (and fake casios lol) and a couple of football shirts.
the following morning we went to a firing range and got to shoot some bad-ass guns. i guess it was pretty un-safe, all we were told to do was not cross the red line and then wear some goggles and ear plugs, but we had such a laugh, especially when the guys who worked there encouraged us to take pictures with the guns to ours heads and stuff. as far as we were aware the guns didnt have bullets in them...just kidding, we made sure they were unloaded, especially when we put the guns down our trousers ha.
after the guns we took an ATV quad bike tour into the thai jungle. this was our first trip into the jungle and it was insane. our tour was about 4 hrs long on a 50km route up into the jungle, driving through these remote villages to the top of the mountain which was 1500m up where there was a viewing point. we got some good pictures.
since we have been here we have also been on a 2 day 1 night jungle trek. this was in-fredible...possibly one of the best experiences of my life. included in this tour was a trip to an orchid garden (andy loved the flowers) and then a snake farm where we saw a snake show in which this crazy thai guy wrestled a python underwater...he made it out alive but it took him a while to release the snakes coils from around his neck...nevertheless it made for good spectating. then came the trek, it was amazing. we trekked up a really steep mountain in the stifling midday heat, but the reward of making it to the top to be met by the hill tribe about 5 hrs later made it all worthwhile. sleeping in a bamboo hut was incredible, as were the waterfalls we swam in. over the course of the trek we swam in 3 different waterfalls which is something we will never forget. at the end of the trek we had an elephant trek for about an hour and then went white water rafting and then when the river got calmer swapped to bamboo rafts.
we have had a pretty good day today. we took a cooking course in which we were taught how to cook 6 different thai dishes and then eat them all at the end.
thailand is unbelievable...we'd recommend it to anyone who had a months holiday to spare...you cant really go wrong with a place that offers thai massages for 2 pounds for an hour.
were off out now for dinner. love you all lots and will message you again when we have made it to the islands, which are in store next
