Took the bus from Hue to Hoian and checked into an antique/museumy kind of hotel in the really pretty old part of town. Walked around getting our bearings and then went for a few drinks in a bar with happy hour, which somehow lasted for about 4 hours, not like that in England! We went onto a weird bar where some people randomly got on the pool table and took most of their clothes off...interesting night! When we eventually got back to the hotel, we got into the room to find a rat on Caths bed eating her peanut brittle!! It wasn't even scared of us! We ended up both sleeping on my bed with the mozie net around us. In the morning the bed was covered with ants eating the scraps the rat had left, so very hungover we checked out and treated ourselves to a posh hotel the other end of town, with aircon, pool and even room service! We ended up staying here another 4 nights!
We then had a few days of shopping - we both got some clothes tailored for us which was good fun - and chilling on a beautiful beach with palm trees, white sand and blue water.
We did a morning trip to see My Son and ancient kingdom of Champa & a Unesco World Heritage site which was beautiful.
We also did a cooking course with the Kiwi couple we'd meet, where we did a trip up the river to go to a local market to buy the ingredients before we cooked them.
Met up with Stuart the night before we left and had a few beers with him and some others he'd meet along the way, which was great to catch up with him and hear where he'd been etc.
Hoian was the best place I've been to in Vietnam so far, its a beautiful town that's really friendly and chilled compared to other towns here.
