The 2 day journey from 4k islands to Siam Reap was quite a trek!! It looked quite simple on the map, but what we thought were roads on the map turned out not to be something else! So we ended up spending a night on Kratie on route (which if you look at a map is completely the wrong way!). Plus there were no cash points on 4k islands, so me and Tim had about $2 between us, but were told there would be one in Kratie, which there wasn't!! Luckily we were travelling with 3 other english guys who paid for our accommodation and food or we would still be stuck there!! Anyway we actually quite enjoyed Kratie where we met the loads of really nice locals.
We eventually arrived in Siam Reap where we spent 2 days visiting Angkor Wot and all the other temples around it. The temples were amazing - I don't think its even worth visiting anymore now as nothing else will compare!! The tuk tuk driver we had was brilliant and on the the last day he invited us out with some of his friends. We ended up going to a local karaoke bar which was hysterical!! We then dragged the locals to the 'Angkor What?' bar...it was one of the best nights out I've had so far!
From Siam Reap we caught the bus to Phenom Penh where we went to S-21 and the Killing Fields. It was all very disturbing, but I think you have to visit it to really understand what the Cambodians went through so recently.
Phenom Penh had some great restaurants and nightlife, but the Cambodian election took place whilst we were here, so everything closed for 2 days!
From here we headed down to Shinokville on the south coast. It had beautiful white sandy beaches with clear blue water. The restaurants on the beach served amazing food - I had BBQ king prawns every night!
From Shanokville we went back to Phenom Penh for 1 night before we flew back to Bangkok.
