Well! Firstly, my apologies for being 'blogged off' for some time. A very good helping or two of several different Asian meals certainly did the trick with the blocked sinuses- and since then it's been non-stop sight-seeing. So I am starting to catch up with the blog and will begin where I left off- day 3 ended with a good home-made curry and decent Australian red- I slept very well.
So on Day 4 we decided to head into the city again to buy some gifts and explore some more of Melbourne's sights. We walked to the train station at Eltham, a short 10 minute stroll, and caught the train into the city centre using MyKi cards- capped at $7.52 for all day travel. Off at Flagstaff for the market to buy some souvenirs for family & friends.Trams are free within the city zone and the circle tram is aimed at tourists, showing the main sites of the city- Parliament, Docklands where the Melbourne Star is situated (their version of the London Eye), Etihad Stadium (see photo) Federation Square.
So we did the circle line and then got off to catch a city tram to Bridge Road- designer outlets are aplenty here and we wandered for a while, just window shopping, before stopping for a beer at The Global Sports bar. Then on to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, AAMI Park, Rod Laver & Margaret Court stadiums. All stadiums situated in Melbourne Park and in pleasant surroundings, easily walked around within 30 minutes. We then picked up the train at Jolimont station and returned to Eltham- problems with delays due to a 'police incident' but got back in time to order a Thai takeaway for us all which was delicious. Relaxed evening with our hosts, Gayle and David, & children, Hazel and Max. Another busy but very enjoyable day- Day 5 plans require a good nights sleep too!
