Today we were awoken by the strangled cat again and went for breakfast at Jomas - I appreciate that cheese and pastrami sandwiches can't necessarily be classed as breakfast but we were both craving real cheese. After this we checked out and walked 15 minutes with our backpacks to the new guesthouse I'd booked - its gorgeous. We both had a pretty sleepless night in our room, as what at first seemed quaint about living in someone's house, soon became a massive minus point - Our room was just off the communal dining area and we could hear people noisily moving around all night and very early morning. I'm also sure someone spent a lot of the night strangling a cat outside our window. We were up at 7 for our trip and headed to Joma bakery (quickly becoming my favourite place!) to pick up...

Woke up late, buffet breakfast at hotel (robin was pleased). Checked out and walked with our backpacks to our next hotel, which included a slight detour to someone's front room, they quickly pointed out that the hotel was further up the road! When we got outside the hotel a 2 year old child ran up to me and attached himself to my leg, which was cute, until i had to walk a few steps with him not letting go. Had lovely christmas day in Laos, now curled up in bed watching Kings Speech, not the Christmas movie i was hoping for but better than the bizarre Thai soaps which seem to be on ever other channel! After a bit if a disastrous morning of not being able to hire bikes we headed back to the hotel and enjoyed an afternoon by the pool with a bottle of red wine. Happy stuff your face day one and all! It doesn't feel particularly festive in Laos, buts it's lovely and warm and I found somewhere to get a Christmas dinner sandwich so all is good! We're now off to hire bikes to ride around on all day in search of appropriate quantities of food and alchofrolic beverages (I.e. lots if both).
