On the hostel walls where we are staying it has every site or attraction you can visit in Ecuador. Looking at the walls we get excited and want to visit everywhere. Although we know time and money won't allow. We decide on several options before we head out for the day into Old Town. We start off looking around Parque el Ejido and see the arco de el Ejido before heading to Basilica, the is the highest church in Ecuador at 2885m. It is an old gothic church with stunning architecture that sits on a small hill overlooking the city.
Coming out of the church we see a statue on the highest hill overlooking the city, having a similar presence as the Christ the 'redeemer' we decide to get a taxi up. It is El Pancillo which is a huge aluminium statue of a virgin, from the top we had a great panoramic view of Quito.
We then headed down to look around Santo Domingo a 16th century church and Plaza de la independencia which is the centre of old town, and a couple of exhibits.
We venture back to our hostel stopping at a tour office and spontaneously booking a climb up Cotopaxi, what have we let our self in for. Money and time running out we take the gamble and go for beer and dinner while belatedly checking our funds.
Back at the hostel, the German girl in our room gives us advice on places to see down south in Peru and Bolivia. Hopefully this will help us plan better......
We finish the night sowing on our Ecuador badge and reading.
