Up early for a morning game walk in Grumeti, guided by Max. We learnt a little about local floral and fauna. As we walked towards the wildebeest and zebra they ran away. We saw some elephants in the distance and listened to them trumpeting. It was a lovely way to start the day.
We had a leisurely morning in camp departing at 1100 hours as you only get 24 hours in the Serengeti. We were overnighting with afternoon and morning game drives. We were privileged to see:
* a hyena eating a fresh kill of young zebra whilst vultures patiently waited their turn. As soon as the hyena left they started squabbling with one another.
* lions lying in the sun soaking it up, including a group of young adolescent males - one of which groomed in front of us
* and we saw the other two big cats too - a cheetah first sleeping and then eying up its prey in preparation for a hunt and a leopard resting in a tree
An amazing day. Our campsite is in the midst of the National Park with no fences to separate us from the animals. We spent the evening sitting around a bonfire listening to Kanyo tell us about the tribes of Africa.
