Having had very little sleep due to loud party music and loud discussions outside our tent at 0245 we were up early to get ready. Today was a long drive with new people in the truck. First stop was for cash and supermarket. Then we had an 8 hour drive to get half way to Dar Es Salaam. We drove through some beautiful landscape.
We thought we'd share observations today on the array of different architecture we have witnessed as we have driven around East Africa. In many of the rural villages people still live in mud huts with thatched rooves, however we have also seen large brick/ plaster houses with either corrugated iron or tiled rooves. Much appears to depend upon whether the place is high in the hills or low on the savannah. Many places have very few windows and there is little glass in evidence. The only exception to this has been Rwanda. In some cases, the Masaai for instance, a conscious choice has been made to continue to live as they have always traditionally lived. In others it is a socio- economic choice.
