We hit the road around 9.30am, we filled the tank for 100,000VD so around £3.20!
We were off, we took the highway up the coast that took us past the marble mountains again and then we went around the edge of Danang city, only downfall was that the cloud was low and the visibility was poor, not so much on the roads but it was restricting our views of the scenery! It took us an hour to reach the start if the pass. It started to get very green and hilly, we stopped to look at the view, we could just about see Danang and the sun seemed to be breaking through.
I was expecting to see more tourists on the way to the pass but we only came across A group of four people who had the proper scrapper motorbikes with their rucksacks tied down to the back of it; maybe we will see a few more on the way! The second stop was just around the bend overlooking an uninhabited beach that was around 2km long and had an old train track just above it cut into the mountain that was the different shades of green from all the plants and trees looked stunning. It was still really foggy and there was a lot of low cloud so we didn't get the real photos you get when you google it but it was still spectacular. In parts the dog made it because it have that eery feeling and the feeling that your really up in the clouds on top of the world! (Cheeseball, I know!)
The roads were fab, they winded around the side of the mountain like a snake! They were so much fun, even with the odd big tank lorries on the road, which we did not overtake... (Whoops I lied there.)
There were a lot of tourists on the road but most of them in hired cars or minivans so they weren't getting the real adventure.
We stopped a few times for some viewpoints and photo opportunities! The greenery on the mountains and the waterfalls is unreal, it looks like it's all been photo edited.
The pass came to an end just over half way through the journey sadly and then it was a highway full of roadworks and trucks and buses trying to overtake each other at high speeds and in little gaps, they must have a death wish!
Luckily no close run ins with any big vehicles and we got to Hue in good time at 2.30pm, then the mammouth task to find the hotel which was hidden down an alley with loads of other hostels that all had sort of the same name! The hotel we reserved on Booking didn't work with the website anymore and only catered for Vietnamese tourists so we went next door which was cheaper and way nicer, we had a room for $10 with cable tv, wifi, hot water and a balcony! Once we sat on the bed we didn't want to get back up, I didn't even drive and I was shattered! It was from using my built in GPS, it's drained my battery!
We had to wait until 5.30 for our bags to arrive which was a little annoying because we couldn't really have a shower so we met up with Sarah, Mike, Lewy and Rosanna who are leaving this evening for Phong Nha and had some lunch with them before they left and then went back to mong out in bed and watch a film, we didn't even speak to each other we were to tired to make conversation.
Finally the bags arrived and we went out to Hue Backpackers and had a few beers and people watched. The beers up north are different to the ones down south of the country. They don't sell Saigon. The popular ones are huda, festival and 333 but they do seen to have a lot of selection.
